Tongue tie mamas - talk to me about Dr Siegel

Any info appreciated.

How old was DC? How was the procedure? How was dr. Siegel? Was your baby breastfed and have a better latch?

Overwhelmed....

I don't have personal experience but in the lll group I go to soooooo many have used him. They all say it was so quick,he does it while they're in the infant seat so they aren't squirming, and they nursed immediately after.

Tongue tie mamas - talk to me about Dr Siegel

Go see him--he'll give you a free consult. He is amazing, you will honestly be blown away by his knowledge!! He's also a really sweet guy and makes you feel at ease.

We did the procedure at 4 days old. The baby barely cried and it made a world if difference!!

We just did DD's lip and tongue tie procedure with dr kotlow in Albany instead of with dr Siegel. I have heard good things about dr siegel, but people fly in from all over the country to see dr kotlow, as he is really the expert for it. We did it in one day and DD was fine right after. Another factor for us was that dr Siegel doesn't take insurance. Good luck.

Eta that I didn't have pain before - I did it to prevent future problems with her development. She did have nursing blisters that completely have gone away (we did the procedure on Thursday). She couldn't take a pacifier and now she can but she doesn't want it unfortunately.

Hmm. Dd can take a pacifier no problem and a bottle. She's gaining weight well.

I'm concerned with future issues with speech, etc. I'm on the fence if she really needs it done, but if I do plan on doing it I'd want to do it now rather than later so she doesn't have to be put under.

And yes,, the no insurance thing stinks

Tongue tie mamas - talk to me about Dr Siegel

My DS had a tongue tie. They noticed it in the hospital. I went to a Dr. that my pediatrician recommended. I think he was about 5 days old when he got it clipped. We were in and out quickly. He screamed but was fine by the time we got to the car. He BF better after it was done. It really wasn't a big deal at all.

Just another perspective, my DS was diagnosed with a tongue tie by a lactation consultant when he was about 2 weeks old. I waited until our 1 month appointment with our pediatrician to check it out. Pediatrician thought it was no big deal and did not recommend any other referrals. I obviously did my own research and decided to wait. I did see and ENT at 8 months out of curiosity and he confirmed tongue tie and was quick to recommend surgery. I did research and decided against it for now. Unless there is some issue down the road I will leave it. I am a speech-language pathologist and there is actually little research supporting that is affects speech. If anything it affects feeding over speech. Unless the tie is so severe (and depends on location). Most kids compensate or just it never affects it. Do what you are comfortable with but do not worry about speech. I know it is a hard decision. When my DS was younger I was having such a hard time post partum I couldn't make a decision about it when he was gaining weight and healthy. Sorry this was longer than I intended if you made it this far.

Thank you for responding. I'm going to go to the consultation and see what the dr says. Dh will be there too so we can decide together.

Re: Tongue tie mamas - talk to me about Dr Siegel

While I have no personal experience with Dr. Siegel - I do know that he's very highly regarded.

I went through the debate on DS's tongue tie (opted not to treat it), and my pediatrician - whom I know is very picky who he would refer me to - said Dr. Siegel is the only one on LI that he'd want me to go to. Also, I work at Weill Cornell (in the city), and one of the leading ENT's there concurred that Siegel is great.

Good luck with your consult. It's a painful situation for mommy……I know it!

Don't want to quote the whole post above, but I did a lot of research on lip ties (don't know if your DC has lip or just tongue tie) and saw so many pictures of the teeth growing in terrible around it, so I wanted to get it done and didn't want to take any chance of having to do the procedure when she was older. The procedure is so quick and simple that I didn't want to take a chance that she needs it when she is older and it is not as simple. I have no regrets (so far).

Also, I know someone who saw dr Siegel and he recommended not doing the procedure, so I do think he will tell you if its not necessary.

That's good to know. Thank you. It's kind of minor or so I think so I don't want to do it unnecessarily.

Tongue tie mamas - talk to me about Dr Siegel

We just did it this morning. Dr Siegel was so nice and very knowledgeable. I was really impressed with him. It was way harder on me than dd. I cried more I think. It really was so quick. After they moved us to a room and I nursed her. Thank you all for making me feel better about this. Turns out she did have a bad tongue tie and lip tie.

Now the fun part is the exercises.
