Drooling/fingers in mouth
My dd will be 3 in December, and I'm becoming concerned because she still drools a lot. She also constantly has her hands in her mouth and/or plays with her tongue. I will ask her doctor about this, but her next appt. is not til the end of December. I was wondering if anyone else has experiences/advice.
PS - she is not teething

Could be 2 things: maybe a sensory thing or could be her tonsils/adenoids.
My son drooled a lot at 3 (but no hands in the mouth). We took him to ENT and he said this kid can't breathe, that's why he's drooling. Got his tonsils and adenoids shaved down in August. His drooling stopped immediately.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Could be her tonsils/adenoids . Does she have a speech issue? Sometimes that can cause it also

That's an interesting thought about the ent angle. Did your dc have any other symptoms? She doesn't snore or breathe loudly.
She was a little delayed with speech but she caught up after just a few months of therapy, and is now at or above age milestones for speech. I do wonder if there's a low tone issue though.

Yes, he was a snorer, but I never thought too much of it. It was really the drooling that prompted me to bring him to the ENT.
If that's not her an issue, an OT could check her for low tone or see if it's a sensory thing (although some kids are just mouthers- 1 of my sons is, the other 2 never put anything in their mouths).

My DS2 turned 2 about a month ago and he drools 90% of the day, a lot. It just drips down sometimes. He wasn't a particularly drooly baby, never really needed a bib, and this just started about 6 months ago.
He has his well check-up and ped said normal until age 3. He sometimes will shove 2-3 fingers in his mouth on certain days but it only happens sporadically.
My friend who's a ped said he is mouth breathing and thus drools so I'm wondering if it's allergies. Tonsils I hadn't thought of.
Going to wait a couple of months and reassess. He's had a couple the last 2 weeks and the drool was out of control since he was so congested.

ETA: He's an early talker and has been speaking in 5-6 word sentences since 23 months so I don't think it's an oralmuscular (sp?) thing.

Drooling/fingers in mouth
For my DS...it turned out to be adenoids. He had a blockage and couldn't breathe. He didn't snore, but was a terrible sleeper. It was causing sleep apnea. His pediatrician also said it could have been from low muscle tone and to have him evaluated for speech issues even though he was talking up a storm. He checked out fine. ENT was our answer. They removed them and sleep got better!!

Thanks everybody. I'm definitely going to ask my pediatrician about the ent angle. That never occured to me.
