Do you have it and how are you dealing with it?
I had it from the onset with my first son. But with my second son I seemed fine for the first several weeks. I am just realizing now that I need help. I have been crying more and have been getting angry with my newborn and it is not his fault. I was just wondering how others are dealing with it.

I didn't have it, but I would suggest talking to your dr about a prescription and recommending a therapist that specializes in it.

You aren't nursing, right? Can DH take DS for a night and let you get a full nights sleep? Sleep deprivation can cause those feelings. I'm sorry you are going through this. I haven't had more than the baby blues, but when DD won't sleep in the middle of the night and I am beyond exhausted, I cry too and quickly lose my patience. I don't know of anyone to talk to, so I can't help there, but I would start with your ob and see if they have a referral. Good luck.

Your OB can give you meds, and also you should start seeing a therapist. It helps tremendously!

Re: postpartum depression

I didn't have PPD but I was VERY emotional after my second for a long time. I think it had to do with the sleep deprivation - I couldn't sleep when the baby slept because I also had a toddler!

First, I'd recommend trying to get some sleep. Have your husband, a family member, a friend, or even a babysitter take the kids for a little while so you can catch up on sleep. Then, if you're still not feeling well, please call either your OB or your pcp. PPD is very real - but also very treatable - nd there's no reason you should suffer.

Call your ob/gyn. I called my OB sobbing hysterically and they took it very seriously. He gave me the names of a few therapists and I saw someone the next day. You may not need meds, just someone to talk to. Chat Icon Chat Icon
