Do you leave workers at your house alone
I am having bathrooms done. My DH will be there some days but the other days I don't know what to do. I have never used the contractor before. How do you handle this?

Re: Do you leave workers at your house alone
A few months ago before we started renovations I would have said no way! But it was impossible for DH or I do be here all day, every day, and we wanted them to be working and to get done! So we hid our valuables and left it up to fate. As far as I know, nothing was taken or broken. I will say that we still had to be readily reachable by phone/text if they had issues/questions.

We have but we always know them on some level. I wouldn't hire a person off the internet or out of the newspaper and leave them alone though.

Yes. We even went away for a week while contractors were doing our renovations since it was previously planned.

Do you leave workers at your house alone
When I was in high school my parents re-did the house it took 3 months. We went away for 3 weeks while they did work on the roof, electric and water. After that they were alone while my parents were working. My parents took the key back after those 3 weeks though someone was always home to let them in. They did come recommended by 2 people my mom works with.

I don't mean to scare you but ...
I had some work done in my house last year and we had several of DH's expensive power tools go missing.

Re: Do you leave workers at your house alone
Yes I had to leave them here alone. Dh can't take off from work for weeks at a time and I have things I need to get done. My 2 bathrooms took almost 3 months I don't know who could stay home all day for 3 months. We also trusted our contract and his guys.

We don't but to us it's not about the potential theft of any valuables how do you know they are doing what they are supposed to? My DH is lucky and can work from home some of the time. I know its not realistic tho

Re: Do you leave workers at your house alone
I never did long term renovations to answer but my husband is an electrician and the majority of time he works on residential houses the tenants aren't there.
I know the times they were there he says they drove him crazy

Yes. If its a job that lasts a few days someone is always home on the first day. After that they are on their own.

As opposed to doing what? Taking breaks? Using incorrect materials? Doing things improperly?
I just ask because I know nothing about construction and could probably be sitting in the same room as them and have no idea if they were doing what they were supposed to be doing!!
