Pediatric Dentist...

So my pediatrician referred us to a pediatric dentist at DS' 2 yr appt.
I feel like he is still so little and will be a huge pain in the ass at the dentist. Does everyone take their kids this young?

I am planning on taking DS at 2 but only because DD is now going and they recommended it. I think I was late in the game I don't think I took DD till she was 4 or close too it
if it wasn't for DD I would be waiting for my DS he really doesn't even get the concept of brushing and spitting yet not sure what going to the dentist is going to do

Pediatric Dentist...

I'll be honest. I've been avoiding taking DD because I know her. Well, I finally took her at 3 and she was a nightmare. Nightmare. The dentist said she was too young to take x-rays. Not sure if that was true or if it was because DD was screaming bloody murder.
Anywho, my point is, you know your kid. And I know it's important to take care of their teeth, but the visit we had was pretty much a waste. I'm hoping in a year, she will be less ummmm, challenging.

Pediatric Dentist...

I took my DS at 2. We went to That Broadway Smile in Massapequa. I have insurance coverage so why not.

He was slightly scared the first time but they are amazing there and the place is fun!

I took DD at 2.5 mostly bc all of my mom friends seemed to be doing it.

It went really well. The dentist wa sooooo nice. She had a blond braid and told DD her name was Elsa! She also let DD sit in my lap during the examination. They had flavored fluroid and a TV on to keep her occcupied. She also gave DD so much swag when she left, that DD can't wait to go back.

I'm glad I went to get DD familiarized with the dentist, but I probably won't go back for another year (not in 6 months as the dentist suggested)

Pediatric Dentist...

We took DD right before she turned 2, but only because she fell and chipped her tooth. We took her back a month later for a check up on the injury and they did a cleaning and fluoride treatment at that time. It was awful. We had to sit in the chair and hold her to keep her arms and legs down. She cried hysterically the whole time. However, she acts the same way at the pediatrician and that doesn't prevent me from taking her. Unfortunately, it just has to get done. We talk very positively to her about both visits "wasn't Dr. George so nice" and "the dentist was fun, right? they gave you stickers and bubbles" etc. She goes along with it, so I know she's not traumatized. lol

For the record, all was well. Her teeth are perfect
And the visit seemed really light- no xrays- said she's too young/
The hygenist cleaned her teeth real fast, counted them, did a flouride treatment or sealants (Dont' recall which)
The dentist came in for like 2 seconds and was in and out so fast

I started taking DS at 2. The first visit was horrible, but every visits after that have been fine with a lot of prep of course. He's going to be 5 soon.
They don't take x-rays, they checked his teeth, brush it with vitamins and fluoride. He has perfect teeth

honestly this is when i thought he SHOULD be going. I cant reason with my son who just turned 2 to let the dentist clean his teeth etc. Im gonna have to hold him down, which will lead to nightmares each and every time we have to go back.

Pediatric Dentist...

took DS for the first time when he was 3. they cleaned his teeth, took x-rays and he did great. I think it's a good learning experience for them. every kid is different though. I don't think you should bring them if you know it won't go well. however, they do recommend that they start going between 2 and 3. we go to a pediatric dentist, which I really like because everything is geared towards kids.

I started taking my kids at a young age. My dentist is amazing. He told me beforehand that if the kids wouldn't cooperate enough for a cleaning then they would just try to make it fun by counting teeth and showing them their teeth in the mirror, etc. My kids all do fine since the beginning. In my opinion the earlier they go the will get used to it much quicker.

We finally took our older son right after he turned 4. We took our younger son at the same time, who was just 2. They both did great and loved the whole experience!!

I took DD for the first time when she was 18 months because I was concerned about her front teeth from using the pacifier. She's been going every 6 months since then for cleanings and she's 4 now. She only cried at one appointment.

i took DS right before his 2nd birthday. and good thing i did...he had no enamel on his teeth. he's been going for fluoride treatments 4 times a year. hes almost 6 and it's gotten much better. if i never took him his teeth would have been a mess. the first year was hard...i pretty much held him down. but now...i just told him i made him an appt for next wednesday and he was excited about it. lol

We took DS after he turned 3. The ped recommended it at his 3 year well visit. I was very nervous because he is special needs and doesn't sit still for haircuts but we took him to a dentist that specializes in working with kids both typical and special needs.

We started at 2.
It is not traumatic & gets kids used to dentist before they really need something.
We love ours.
We do have insurance that covers visits 100%.
I pay $$$ for insurance, so I make sure we go!

We took her at 2. My nephews first appt was when he was 5 and h e ended up having a lot of cavities and having to have teeth pulled, so i figured better start the habit of going and catching things early.

They were amazing. They were so patient and dd laid on me while they finagled their way into her mouth. We see Dr. Jeanine at adelberg Montalvan.

Pediatric Dentist...

The first appt before 3 cleaning their teeth means taking toothpaste and brushing their teeth. Counting their teeth. That's it. That's the whole visit.
I took my dd about 1 month shy of her 3rd bday because her bottom teeth got a lil yellow and I was concerned. turned out it was because of antibiotics and the dr was able to scrap it right off.

Waiting longer doesn't make any of you out there a bad mom. =) My pediatrician doesn't even suggest it until like 4 or 5.

We started when DS was 12 months because of his frenulum and I wanted to make sure that was ok. We have another appt at 18 months. I have insurance coverage so why not and we took him to broadway smiles which is geared towards kids.
