Re: my first FTM question
Congratulations! We uses the carters long sleeved side snap tee-shirts for the first few weeks - they have a fold-over at the cuff that goes over the hands. The mittens never stayed on.
I was terrified to cut her nails too, but it wasn't as bad as I thought! Good luck!

my first FTM question
I never covered my girls' hands. You get used to trimming pretty quickly but even then they can be sharp and will scratch themselves plenty. The cuts are tiny and heal in a day usually and they both have great vision despite sticking their fingers in their eyes all the time! Congrats!

my first FTM question
Covered for maybe almost a month. I like the onezoes with the fold over sleeves. Trimming isn't as bad as it seems. Especially when they are small and don't move so much or will sleep through it. I do with while BFing, my LO is very relaxed and lets me do it without too much drama haha

Re: my first FTM question
Aww congrats!!!!
I used those little mits for like the first month or so.
I cut them with the baby nail clipper when he would sleep bc he was such a deep sleeper, it was perfect.

my first FTM question
I didn't use the mitts that much. I used to just use a little nail file to file her nails while she was sleeping.

my first FTM question
I never used the mittens or covers. I filed or clipped his nails when he fell asleep after nursing.

my first FTM question
Never used mittens with either. I bite the nails when they're this small because I always end up nicking a finger :(

my first FTM question
we didnt use mittens, but i used the onesies that had the piece that folded over. I waited till she was sleeping to cut them. filing doesnt work because the nails bend because they are not firm yet. And biting was way too awkward

my first FTM question
I used the foldover sleeves... My son was a real face scratcher and came home from the hospital with a few good bloody scratches on his face, even though his nails were very short. I stopped using the foldover sleeves when he didn't flail his hands around his face as much, haha, but I don't remember when that was.

my first FTM question
I never covered them. Hated the nail clippers and actually used a cuticle clipper cause I felt I could see better. Worked great!

Re: my first FTM question
dd2 wore mittens for a while. even when i could cut them they would grow like crazy and the mittens really helped. they also have some shirts that you can flip over the hand.

Re: my first FTM question
I left DS's hands covered for a day. Maybe 2. Ha. DD never had her hands covered.
I try filing their nails often, as babies, but the nails get out of control. I use nail clipper, and just try to be REALLY careful. I've cut both of them, though, as babies, and felt terrible. Just know it happens and they survive!

my first FTM question
I only covered my kids' hands when other kids, like our nieces and nephews, were around so they didn't touch the babies hands. But when it was just us at home I would keep their nails filed down with a baby nail filer, I was afraid of the clippers when they were so tiny. I think I stared using the clippers around 6 or 7 months old. I was terrified of cutting them

Re: my first FTM question
I never covered his hands but when I did cut his nails, I found the rounded tip nail scissors MUCH easier than the clippers. I haven't cut his skin once using these. If you are nursing, that is the best time to cut them.

Re: my first FTM question
I never used the mitts, but if a shirt had the fold over hands I used those. I cut her nails early on. If they scratch themselves, which they will, it heals fast.

Re: my first FTM question
I never had them covered because those damn mitts never stayed on! I try to file their nails often but its hard. LOL. Now thta they are 5 months old I tried clipping them but the nails are so thin that doesn't work. They do scratch themselves every once in a while but its nothing severe. I just file them when I can.

my first FTM question
I used baby nail scissors (rounded edge not pointed) and found them so much easier than clippers. I felt like I could see what I was cutting better. DD is 7 and I still use them!!
