LIRR from Northport or Huntington station HELP
You need a town of Huntington permit at Huntington. There are two big garages plus plenty of outdoor parking. There are plenty of trains, even express to and from Huntington.
Northport most of the time you'd have to transfer in Huntington for the diesel.
Parking permit is $75.

Many from Northport just drive to Huntington. More trains, more parking options.
And yes, you need a sticker, $75.

Re: LIRR from Northport or Huntington station HELP
I commute from both stations.
Parking permit is $75 annually and is good for Huntington, Northport, Greenlawn, and Cold Spring Harbor.
I don't usually have a problem parking in Huntington. The garages and south lot fill up first. I can usually find a spot in the South Garage up top for the 7:37 train. Anything later than that and I go directly to the long lot along 110. There are always spots there. It is a little bit of a walk from that lot but not terrible. The late trains are not my norm but I do take them from time to time.
I never have a problem parking in Northport. I park on the opposite side of the track and have to walk over but prefer that.
I prefer NP just because it is less hectic and closer to my house, but I don't take the same trains on the days I am in the city so it all depends for me. If I know I will definitely be on a direct train to NP on my way home then I go from there, if I am not sure what time I am coming home I go to Huntington because there are more options and later trains.
Depending on where you are and what time you commute the drive to the stations is worse than parking in my opinion.

LIRR from Northport or Huntington station HELP
Actually........the information given is not quite true.
And this is based on what I THINK I know from when I moved into the area.
If you live in Northport you pay Taxes to Huntington. That gives you the privilege of getting a TOH parking sticker for $75.
That sticker (based on what I think I know) will NOT allow you to park at Kings Park. So just keep that in mind.
The PP's are right: I commute from NorthPort. There is no coverage for bad weather. Just a few glass coverings here and there. I almost always get parking on the North side, but every once in a while there are no spots. By the time you realize and get to to the otherr parking lot the train will be gone. So just keep that in mind.
But I take Northport and rarely have any problems at all.
And unless I am really in trouble I don't go to Huntington. The commute there is long with a lot of traffic. It can take 30 min to get to the Huntington rail.
