At & t next?
Does anyone use AT&T next for their smart phone? We went to upgrade Dh's phone at the store and they only offered this option. However, we would pay $25 a month for two years, which would work out to be a lot more than the $300 to buy a new phone. That being said, my sister told me that they reduce the price of your phone plan if you participate in the next phone rental program. Is this true? Could Somebody enlighten me?

Call AT&T directly I found they offer much better incentives online and over the phone then in the store. I was told if you own the phone you get $15 off you plan per month- I just upgraded my phone and signed a two year contact and received a large discount on the phone but my monthly plan increased $15 a month because I choose this option. This still cost me less than the next plan.

Verizon is now doing this too. The rep said it would still come out to about the same price per month with the new plan because instead of being charged $40 per line they are now charging $20 per line. The only thing you have to pay up front are the taxes on the phone(s).

Re: At & t next?
This is pretty much the direction all of the phone carriers are going. Either lease or installment billing. You will no longer be finding $300 deals to purchase phones with 2 year contracts anymore.

Agreed. It actually doesn't come out to be more expensive because if you don't take the installment billing, they raise your bill... somehow. They say if you do the installment plan they give you some data or something for "free" each month, but if you just buy the phone outright, they tack on a charge for the thing that would otherwise be free. I made the guy at AT&T explain it to me 3 times before finally agreeing to it. But it's the same across the board- T-Mobile, Verizon, all the big names are doing it this way.
