Make me feel better about this.

I'm a pretty relaxed parent but this thought is driving me NUTS!

Did anyone else feel this way? What did you tell yourself?

It's so silly because their grandparents have driven them, so this isn't any different, right?

I wouldn't be comfortable either. You known how your parents drive, you don't know how a baby-sitter drives. DH's boss had his babysitter on their insurance policy, but even then, I couldn't do it.

Ours does but she stays very local with them. It is a necessity for us.

I used to use a SAHM to watch my DS for a few hours during the week and she had kids of her own that she had to take to school, so she would drive DS as well. I think it made me feel better that she was a mom herself so I didn't feel worried.

It's kind of nice when they can drive them places. My mom babysits a 4 yr old (started when he was 2) and she takes him everywhere - parks, library, out for ice cream, the beach, etc, etc. He doesn't have his mom though and is being raised by grandpa so he pays my mom well to be total caregiver (she takes him shoe & clothes shopping, etc too). I'm not in the same area as her and babysit a few kids that i do not drive around and I'm always jealous of how much fun they have rather than just being stuck in one location all day. lol. So I think driving around with kiddo is awesome as long as you trust the driver. I would feel uncomfortable if it was a young/new driver for sure. Or if there is not a good driving record, obviously. Otherwise, it's kind of nice. I just don't drive the kids I have anywhere because I have too many of them (4 counting my daughter). It would just be too much for me, and we have parks that are walking distance.

It's a necessity here too and she's a mom. I guess it's normal to feel this way. Sometimes I worry more about the other jerks on the road than the driver, you know?

My mentality is if I trust you with my kid I trust you to drive with my kid. That being said there are not many people I trust with my kid.

Background check and overview of abstract of driving history.

I would also do some kind of app or security device on her phone to track that she is never texting while driving or talking on the phone while driving.

There are also ways to monitor/report speed traveled.

I would just lo-jack her assss and like another poster pointed out -- if you chose this person to watch your child I think they are pretty responsible to begin with - the checks I did just to hire a date-night sitter was insane lol like what they do to clear someone for the FBI. That being said, I would be ok with all of the above in place.

Sadly, what I'm most concerned about is everyone else on the road.

You can do everything right and I hate to sound like a Debbie Downer but you can do everything right and well, you know. Chat Icon

personally i can't get myself to be Ok with it. I want to have her help dropping them places, picking up from school but i feel like i would never forgive myself it something happened behind the wheel. I know it's probably crazy but it's just something i'm not comfortable with (and i love my babysitter).

Starts tomorrow :(

I'm so nervous. Stomach in knots. It's silly because why do I think thAt if I drive, I'm immune to an accident? Or if a relative drives? It's such irrational thinking on my part and I know worrying doesn't change anything. It won't change anything.
thanks for letting me vent.

Wanted to Add. She is driving her own child too along with mine. That makes me feel better a little.

As long as she properly secures your child in the car seat I think all will be fine.

Hope it went well today.

We are trying to find someone to watch our kids one day a week and they'll need to drive them and I too am having anxiety about it.

This makes it so much better, IMO! I would still worry a bit because it wasn't me driving but I would think that having her own child in the car significantly increases the likelihood of safe driving.
