Can someone enlighten me? I know 4 is a bad age, but how do you know if there's a legitimate problem?

I would say if behaviors are impacting in school and socialization with peers it's more of an issue than if it's just with parents.

Re: Behavioral issues

Is their behavior effecting them in school or any activities with other kids?
I was concerned about My 4yr old Daughters behavior back at her 4yr well visit. The Ped asked if it's effecting her in social situations or school. Which it's not, she's VERY well behaved in school and dance and gymnastics when she's in group settings. So she wasn't concerned it's just the age and her being a PITA at home

Re: Behavioral issues

She has her moments. She plays well some of the time. Just recently I had I remove her from a play date bc she was misbehaving. She also had good days and bad days when she started pre school last year. She was well behaved in dance. Also I'm wondering if it had anything to do with DD2, she's 5 months old and her behavior had gotten bad since she was born. Do I speak with her ped about it or do I call someone different? Everyone else thinks it's just the age but I don't. I need some guidance.

I think it depends on what behavior issues you are talking about.

I would see how your daughter is in school. Did she go last year?
My twin boys will be 4 in Oct.
Last year in the 3yr old program one of them was having behavior issues. We are in social skills group now which has helped wonders.

Prior to starting the special class, the school had told us there were issues so we had him evaluated.

Re: Behavioral issues

Does she behave whenever someone other than you is watches her. I ask because my girls are nightmares for me sometimes but are angels when other people watch them.

Re: Behavioral issues

If you are really concerned, I would start with your pediatrician. Explain your concerns and ask what type of dr they recommend. Then follow up with your insurance company to see who they cover. I firmly believe in following your mommy instincts. If you feel like something is off, definitely pursue it.

I would ask the ped for some referrals to psychologists with a behavioral background (and you can cross reference with your insurance). If I felt that my child's behavior was impacting enough at home and I had difficulty changing it, I would seek assistance. It doesn't mean anything is "wrong" with the child but maybe some strategies can be used and discussed to improve the behaviors.
