Comparing yourself to others

How do you stop from comparing yourself to others? There is another employee who started in my dept. shortly after me and management seems to be in love with him. Everyday they praise him. He's fast and efficient but its almost overkill with the praising. I personally don't need the daily reassurance, but after a while I am starting to question myself.

In that situation it's difficult to not compare yourself. I think, perhaps what I would do, is schedule a meeting with my supervisor to ensure that I was living up to their expectations with the work load. I would just be worried that the praise is management's way of saying everyone should be working at this level.
