Spinoff to weddings and honeymoons: Jilted?

Did you ever attend a wedding where everyone was waiting for the bride/groom, and they didn't show, or does this only happen in the movies?

I never had it happen AT the ceremony, but one of them was 2 days before (we got a telephone call from the mortified MOTB, that the wedding was off) and another was about 2-3 weeks before the wedding. They both lost their full payments/deposits. Neither ever ended up getting married or reconciling.

I've never seen that. But I know 2 people that skipped out a week or so before the wedding.

I have never seen it either, but my wedding was called off 11 days before. I know people were shocked when they got the call.

I'm so sorry. My sister went through this years back. It was so painful. Thankfully she met a wonderful man whom she is now living with and they will likely marry next year, they discussed it. So she is much better off.

Thank you so much. It was almost 6 years ago, can't believe how fast the time has gone. While it was devastating then, and took me a long time to get over, I did come to realize it was the best thing that could've happened. If I had ended up getting married, I'm sure I would've had been divorced by now. I couldn't see it at the time, but I truly believe things happen the way they are supposed to happen. I grew so much from it. I have actually been in a relationship the last 6 months, first long term one since then, and while I don't know what will happen since it is still new, he is a great guy and I am so happy! My friend broke off her wedding 2 weeks before it was supposed to happen when her fiance told her that her parents would never be welcome into their home.

i know it happened to two of my cousins. i think one cousin ended it a week before the big day. another cousin it also happened a week before. i went to the bridal shower of the bride, my cousin's fiancee.
both cousins are currently married to their current spouses which they met about a year after their weddings were called off.

I had horrible cold feet for my first wedding to the point where I really thought I should call off the wedding. So much changed from the time we got engaged to our wedding. I just knew it wasn't right but didn't have the guts to call it off. We were divorced less than 2 years later.

We were invited to a wedding last year - 2 weeks before the wedding we got a note in the mail stating that "Due to a recent unfortunate incident we regret that we have to annouce the postponement of our marriage" - they never rescheduled it and are no longer together. Guess that was easier to do instead of calling everyone.

My ex left me 9 days before our wedding, and left me to cancel everything. Thankfully I sent him an invoice and received a check for all expenses in return for giving him back my ring.

It was the best thing to ever happen to me. A month after he left me I started dating my now husband, and we just celebrated our third wedding anniversary and have a beautiful daughter and home.

We received a text shortly before a wedding saying it was called off. Then about a year or so later, the couple decided to go ahead with a much more scaled back wedding.

I've always loved your story. You gave me hope way back when and now I have an amazing DH too. Chat Icon

Some of your stories are absolutely beautiful. It is so uplifting to see that such utter devastation could turn out to be a blessing in disguise!

My friend got engaged and since he was in the navy planned to marry when he came home. Wedding was planned for September and when he came home she called in off and that was May. Lucky no invitation went out yet though and she barely booked anything I think in the back of her head she knew.

Glad to hear some uplifting stories.

My niece was recently dumped by her fiance (after the wedding invitations had already gone out).

She didn't see it coming at all and is really struggling.

The whole family is devastated, myself included.

I wish there was more I could do for her.

I called off what would have been my first wedding about 4 months beforehand. We had already bought a condo together and lived together for over a year. It was the best decision I've ever made and I am sure it worked out better for him as well. We are both now married to other people and have children with our spouses. I'm sure he looks back and is glad that we are not together.

My brother's ex called off the engagement a month after their huge (and expensive) engagement party. They were in the beginning stages of planning the wedding, but sad for everyone nonetheless.
