help with message for a condolence card
For a friend & her kids who just lost her husband & their dad. I really have no words but want to write something "helpful" if there is such a thing.

help with message for a condolence card
keep it simple, so very sorry for you lose. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. I will call you in a few weeks so see how you are doing, (make sure you call). Offer to make her family a home cooked dinner like a stew. I wasnt sure if you meant helpful..you want to do something for them
my cousins lost their dad when he was in his 40's they were very young.

Agreed! I would just add if YOU want to talk or text Im here for you. I know when my mom died the last thing i wanted to do was talk to anyone. I was just so angry and upset that she was gone. Dont force a conversation.

If I might just add, and please Lara& dont take this the wrong way.
As someone who has worked with palliative and hospice patients and familys after they have past.
When someone is in mourning, telling them I am here for you if you want to talk or text is placing the burden on them and putting it on them to reach out if they need to talk. Everyone has said those words, but in general people will not reach, it is a burden for them to do so.
It should be the other way around. I will call you in a week, 2 weeks next month to see how you are holding up. Families appreciate that, if they are not ready to talk they will say so or not answer the phone, but it is important to still make those calls.

Re: help with message for a condolence card
I lost my husband this past December. I hate to admit it but I barely read the many many cards DS & I received. I remember everyone that cared for my DS, showed up in the following weeks with meals, shoveled my walk, came over to sit and talk for a bit. I was numb for months just going through the paces. Actions definitely speak louder than words, at least that was very true for me.
