Looking for camping location suggestions
Looking to go away for 2 nights with a couple of other families. Willing to drive up to 3.5 hours away. Bathrooms and showers a must?? would also love a lake/water that the kids can actually swim in.

Re: Looking for camping location suggestions
We just went camping last month at Promised Land State Park in Pa. Should be 3 hours away without traffic. There are several campgrounds in the park and we stayed at one called the Pines. Rustic campground with bathrooms. Shower facilities are a short walk away at the lake. The roped off swim area is quite shallow - only about 4 ft at the deepest. You can rent kayaks to go out on the lake. There were some nice short hikes in the park. The kids loved it - you can bring their bikes or scooters as there is a nice paved road at the campground with very little traffic on it. Just need to be very careful with food as there are black bears.
Looking forward to hearing all the other suggestions people make. Hope you have a great time wherever you end up going

We're actually going here in a couple of weeks. My brother and SIL go here often and asked us if we wanted to come. They love it.

My sister goes here. Only thing is I believe they can be pretty strict about noise and alcohol. She is not rowdy by any means but said their park Rangers came around a few times checking for this.

They don't allow you to drink alcohol in the park. And they definitely have quiet hours from 9pm to 8am. The camp hosts will talk to you if you are too loud but if you select a spot far away from the host it's less likely to happen.

Re: Looking for camping location suggestions
We love Northampton Beach Campground. It is a state park. Has a beautiful lake Sacandaga in the foothills of the Adirondacks!! It is pretty close to lake George. The roads in the campground are paved which makes nice bike riding. There is a part of the beach with lifeguards and parts without. There is mini golf right outside the campground. Canoe rentals in the park and reg boat rentals outside the park. There are plenty of flush toilets and a big enough bath house. I love it there. We try other state parks and always end up there the following year.

does it get crowded? or are you somewhat on your own when you get your campsite?

Re: Looking for camping location suggestions
I have never seen it completely booked except for holiday weekends. The sites on the water are impossible to get. We like the sites on the outskirts of the campground because they are huge, private and the bathrooms are close and not that busy.

Looking for camping location suggestions
We just got back from Strawberry Park in Preston, CT. It's about 2.5/3 hours away. It's great- DH has been going since he was a kid and we've gone a few times. We rent a trailer there, but you can tent it too. Bathrooms are right there- it's a whole Park- with activities, pools, playgrounds, etc. It's really nice, clean and so much fun.

you can do tent camping there too. there is a lake (I cant remember if you can swim in it) a pool which I think is now heated and playgrounds. My 4yo DD just went with my parents their this weekend and she had a blast!
