RF Infant Car seats
OK. So, I'm all for and very serious about keeping children RF as long as possible. That said, I see SOOOOO many people using the car seats far beyond the recommended height specifications. I see children taller than the 30" still in the "bucket" click infant seats. Isn't it just as dangerous to keep a child in a car seat that they are too tall for as it is to switch them to FF? I understand not wanting to spend the money, especially when these car seats are expensive enough as it is, but I just can't help but think it's dangerous. Maybe I'm wrong, but the way I understand it is if say Graco or Britax says that their RF infant click car seat is recommended UP TO 30", once you hit that height (ok, I'll give 31" or 32") you really should be changing and growing with your child. If I'm wrong, please tell me! Maybe it's just that they did the crash tests up to that point.

Both are dangerous in their own way. Once a baby has outgrown their infant seat, they should move to a convertible seat which rear and forward faces.
ETA: and the can't afford a new seat is a cop out bc you can get a perfectly safe convertible seat for $45.

There is a graco model that goes up to 32". In addition there head should be 1" from the top.

I think there may be exceptions to the 30 inch rule like aa long as they are an inch below the top of the shell. Obviously you'd have to look at your manual for your specific seat to know if that's okay. I have a friend who's ped told her that was fine so they used the bucket seat until their daughter was 2 as a back up cat seat.

I see this all the time and it drives me insane. People have their toddlers in infant seats and they are definitely over 30 inches cause they are way taller than my 30 inch DS! I think people do it for the convenience of 'grab and go'. My kid would be screaming bloody murder if I still had him in that thing at 15 months.

These kids, their heads are at the top of the shell, like right there. It just seems dangerous to me, and I thought maybe I was mistaken, because I was under the same impression, 1" below and 30" (or 32" inches). I thought maybe I was wrong and was really unsure of what I understood.
As a side note, I find it really funny how they market these and write that they are good fro NB to 6 months, meanwhile we clearly see toddlers in them.

For most car seats that go up to 30"/30lbs, it's outgrown when the child hits 30" OR 30lbs OR has less than 1" left from the top. So the child could be 28", 20lbs, but have less than 1" to the top and it will be outgrown.

THAT I don't get either! DS can't stand being in it, but he hasn't grown out of it yet, so we haven't gotten a new one. I can't even carry him in it, and I'm sorry, but I'd much rather him in the regular stroller versus in the bucket when we are out, let him observe and see the world! I NEVER remove the bucket anymore and haven't in a few months. I leave it in and just take him in and out as if it wasn't a click-n-go. The only time we carry him in it is if he's out and we want him to stay napping.

Just checked my own manual and it says they must meet all 3 requirements.
My older dd was in it until 13 or 14 months but she was within the right range. My second will likely use it even longer since she's barely in the charts for height and weight. I don't see pushing it to save money. It's not like you're going to go straight from an infant seat to a booster.

I loved the carrier until DD hit about 17lbs. Then it was too heavy to carry around. She was already 9.5 months at that point anyway.

Yes! My girls still haven't outgrown the weight of the snug ride 30 but they outgrew the height long ago.

LOL, I think it was around 5 months when DS hit about 15/16lbs and I just gave up. He's a little over 20lbs now and there's no way, no way I could take it in and out. I was watching our friends do it the other day, and their daughter is a good sized almost 18 month old, and I nearly dropped, lol. BUT, I did check out their empty bucket, and it's much lighter than our Britax b-safe.

This is why I don't understand the days with a 35 pound limit. You end up with a heavier seat that you likely won't get to use any longer. My 3yo is just hitting 30 pounds, who knows when she'll hit 35. My 8 month old is just 15 pounds so the convenience of the infant seat will lay us a while longer.

My son is small and he still fits in his bucket seat. He is 17 months. We use it in my husbands car. We generally take my car when we go out.

That's what I mean. If they don't meet all 3 measurements they should not be in the seat. It's the chicco keyfit.
