Endocrinologist recomendation?

My dr. prescribed thyroid medication for me because the symptoms I described sounded like I have a hypo active thyroid.
It didn't show on my blood test so I think I'd like to get an opinion from an Endocrinologist before I start taking something.

I'm in the Rockville Center area.
He's sending me for a sonogram next week but I hate that he's so quick to prescribe me something without getting the results to it, or any of the other tests you mentioned.

Honestly it's been 5 years I've been researching hashimotos (which I have) I am on my 5th endo bc they're all SO stupid. I don't normally talk like that but they're ALL like its no big deal take synthroid. And I'm like I do. And my results are perfect and I feel like I am going to die help me! And they're like you're okay take synthroid.

My advice to you if you find you have hashimotos or graves (both autoimmune) OR you just have a hypo or hyper thyroid please go to a holistic doctor!!! You'll save years of time. I am now on armour after a legit screaming fight with doctor 5 including me hanging up on him before he agreed to rx me it. I feel a lot better.

Then I went gluten free. Within 2mos my antibodies decreased attacking my thyroid by 25p. Doc said it wouldn't work. That number wouldn't change. Then he was so shocked but refused to believe it was gluten free, two months later my antibody level dropped another 10p and he said oh those numbers fluctuate. Really?! You said they couldn't. Anyway now I've been experimenting going grain free and feel even better!

I will say a prayer for you that you're fine bc it's super annoying to get under control when no one will guide you! If you do wind up having you need a holistic doctor to guide you so it is manageable. Endo will ONLY give synthroid and send you on your merry way.

Sorry I went on a rant. I am usually positive and not rude to doctors. In my experience I have been just amazed that I've learned so much more from following hypothyroid mom on Facebook or wellness mama on Facebook than 5 medical a doctors. Their lack of knowledge scares me.

A hollisitc doctor won't be covered by insurance. Will rage $200-$500 for first consult and like $150 after. But you'll have access to proper supplements and diet info. A medical doctor won't tell you to stay away from soy and not eat raw broccoli and take selenium daily as well a vitamin D.

I am in Huntington otherwise I could recommend my not so great doctor.

I used to go to Dr. Lawrence Shapiro at Winthrop. He was excellent--really spent time and listened to me. I was diagnosed in college. My levels on initial tests were low, but not out of range. I had a lot of symptoms though, so my doc sent me to another endo, who then did a different test (it was years ago. I want to say they gave me an injection of some sort and then tested my blood at certain intervals for an hour). The test showed levels indicating hypothyroidism (but not hashimotos). I went on synthroid for several years. I ended up switching to Dr. Shapiro when my previous endo moved further west than I wanted to travel. After seeing him several times, he began to suspect that maybe I didn't need the synthroid (I was feeling fine, no symptoms). He started weaning me off and testing my levels. He was right. I didn't need it. He thinks I threw my thyroid off balance in college (I had some disordered eating that lead to a quick weight loss--I lost my period for months, etc.). That was years ago and my levels are fine ever since. I'm grateful he decided to try that because otherwise, I would be still taking medication I didn't actually need.

To answer your question Leb, my symptoms aren't anything terrible, I'm just not myself.
I've been feeling this way since I had my daughter & that was 4 years ago!!!

I figured it was a little postpartum in the beginning but I never fully got back to feeling as good as I did before having her.
I'm always tired, lazy & unmotivated (that is not like me at all.)
I'm a complete moody basket case before my period & I get horrible cramps & headaches.
I have less then zero desire to
& I keep gaining weight

I'm sure most of these things are just what happens after you become a mom but I just feel like something is off.
