X-Post from Career Board
I applied for a job that I found on Careerbuilder and, after following up several times, I finally got the recruiter to pay attention, she told me to send some additional information and I sent it to her right away. She confirmed she sent my resume.
I followed up with her a week later, she said she hadn't heard back from them and she'd follow up. No further response and I haven't emailed her further.
I notice that the position is posted on Monster now, but it appears to be a direct posting from the company.
Is it bad form to submit my resume through Monster? Should I follow up again with the flaky recruiter?
Also, while researching the company, I noticed that one of my son's classmates' mother works there, but I don't know her personally. However, the the position is more than likely in her unit. Any suggestions on how to approach this with her or is it absolutely totally tacky (which is where I'm leaning)?
Sorry for the rambling. :)

OK, so I did some research and its not advisable to go behind the recruiter's back. However, I believe that I am qualified for this position. I have made sure not to email the recruiter more than once a week, but should I keep emailing her until she tells me the position is filled?

Re: X-Post from Career Board
Honestly if it were me, bad form or not, if I wanted the job I'd submit my resume directly at this point.

I guess it would also be bad form to say I have a contact at the company, when she is really only a neighbor that I don't even know, right?

I don't think its in bad form to apply directly to the company. Obviously the recruiter route isn't working. I wouldn"t us the contact at the company because if someone ever questions her she will probably say she doesn't really know you. Good Luck

I really don't know what the "proper" thing to do is, but could you contact the recruiter and tell her you saw the job listed on Monster and you were going to send your resume directly? That way you won't have to feel like you're going behind her back. But, if she told you that she did submit it (and you believe her), it could take the company more than a week to get back to her - so not sure that she really hasn't done her job, other than to get back to you to say she hasn't heard from them yet.

I would reach out to the neighbor and be friendly and matter of fact about it. I applied for a position at X I heard you work there. Would you mind giving me some insight into the company/position. I wouldn't mind helping someone out if I were approached like that.

I agree. Apply directly to the company. You have to look out for yourself. The recruiter is most likely referring others to this position as well. Good Luck!

This.
And in many cases - people get compensation of they recommend someone is hired so it's not like you are putting them out.
There was a position I was interested in and someone at my kids daycare who I chat with works there - she forwarded along my resume and I got an interview. Unfortunately - I didn't end up getting the job but, it helped me get my foot in the door.
