Another BF question

OK, so, DS is 7 months old, and when we are home together, he EBF (he's at daycare during the week, and gets 1 bottle BM and 1 bottle formula). So, 2 questions. My pump just can't get enough out of me these days, the supply via the pump has dropped significantly, I changed the membranes and that seemed to help a bit, but is there anything else I can do/change out to try to help? It's a big difference, I used to get easily 16-20 oz in a day, and now I'm lucky if I get 8. DS has been on solids for a little over 2 months, and I know that there can be a drop after that. When he's home with me all day, he doesn't eat any more frequently, isn't any hungrier and is just as satisfied as when he gets his bottles (each of 8oz). I'm OK with him getting the formula, just wondering if there's anything else I can be doing?

Also, his first tooth is in the midst of cutting (and it's so adorable, it's popped out and so cute). He's been handling it like a champ, really really has... but... man, sometimes he'll bite me when he's latched and it really hurts. How did you get through this? He has another tooth right next to it about to come through, too, now...

Another BF question

Try power pumping- pump for an hour- 20 minutes on, 10 off, 10 on, 10 off 10 mins on.

Look into galactagogues- steel cut oatmeal, fenugreek, etc.

I'll have to try that on the weekend when I'm home, or on a day when we have no patients... or at night when I get home... hmm. I could try that, when he's eating his dinner and playing.

Re: Another BF question

At 7 months, I needed to pump between 12-16 ounces a day.

I would pump 3x a day. The best time for me to pump was in the morning when I first woke up - I would easily get 8-10 ounces.. I would put on my hands free bra and I would pump as I did my hair and make up. I would then nurse my DS.

I was doing this, until I started nursing DS twice before we'd leave the house. Though, he's starting to sleep a little later, I can try it again, I'd just be so nervous that he won't get enough when he nurses if I pump first, since my body isn't used to it anymore.

My first only bit me once or twice and my reaction of a loud ouch and pulling her off was enough to scare her. It wasn't intentional, just my natural reaction. I would definitely give him a firm no and take him off right away for a few minutes. Also don't let him hang out at the boob once he stops actively nursing since that's when they'll tend to chomp down.

ok, cool. He's only done it once or twice right as he's getting ready to latch, and it's such a teeny tiny tooth, but man it hurt. I did just that, hopefully he wont do it again. Thanks!!

Re: Another BF question

Have you had a pp AF yet? My supply dropped when I was about to get my AF for a few days. You can try to increase supply by eating steal cut oats, and lactation teas.
As for parts, I didnt have the Medela pump, but every 6 months I had to change the tubing and falinges.

If your DS is biting you need to release the grasp until he latches correctly. If that doesn't work try the nipple shield.

Another BF question

I got my first pp AF 6 weeks after birth. Lol. And every 45 days after that. Actually, after my drop in supply, I seem to be going back to my normal 33 day cycle. But yeah, breast feeding never stopped my period for me... Doesn't for everyone.

He should be pretty efficient at getting all the milk he needs so I wouldn't be too concerned. In 14 months of BF, I've yet to have a time where I was unable to squeeze some milk out.

Hahaha, I'll try that again.
