Daughter with high fever

My dd (3 years old) has had a high fever since sunday. I took her to dr yesterday and they think its viral. All tests negative. Shes slightly dehydrated but nothing concerned them. They said fever could last 2 more days just have to keep piggy backing tylenol and motron every 3 hours.

So my question is anyone elses dc go through this? I dont know why but i feel very nervous. My dd has only had a high fever like this for this long only once before when she had the flu. And once meds started the fever was coming down and didnt keep spiking so high.

If im even 10 min off the 3 hours mark i find her temp spikes back to 103 and she gets the chills. She wants to lay down with me. Once it goes back down shes fine snd goes back to playing.

So anyone go through this? Any advice/suggestions.

Lots of water and some pedialyte
Luke warm bath
Dressed appropriately
House isnt too cold or hot

Not my DC, but my brother would spike like that until he was about 10 years old. As he got older, he would hallucinate, once that he was flying... seriously thought he was flying around near the ceiling of his bedroom. Exactly what you are doing is what my parents would do, he would eat when they could get him to eat, usually soup/broth, sometimes toast, depending (I don't think they ever used pedialyte). Depending, it would last 1 day, 2 days, 3 or 4 days, totally dependent on what he was fighting.

Could definitely be a virus like roseola. Fever spikes quickly and high,lasts a few days, and then I think the fever breaks before the rash starts. Dd had it and thankfully her fever never got too bad bc typically it does with that.

My DD (she's 6) had a virus that lasted EIGHT DAYS!! She had eight straight days of high fevers, around 103 and the even with piggybacking Motrin and Tylenol her fevers kept spiking around the 2.5-3 hr mark.

We took her to the ped twice, they did blood work on her, and had the fevers not finally broken we were also going to take her for a chest X-ray. She also tested negative for strep twice. They said to just keep her comfortable and let it run its course. After 8 days her fevers finally broke for good and she was back to her old self.

Both DD and DS have had high fevers that scared the cr@p out of me.

DD's fever lasted 3-4 days, and spiked to over 105 at one point! We took her to the doctor, who sent us to the ER. After all sorts of tests and a chest X-ray, they ruled it was "viral".

DS's fever fluctuated between 104 and 105 for 4-5 days. (We were of course giving Motrin and Tylenol, but it would keep spiking after a few hours.) After bloodwork, doctor also ruled this "viral". (I blame one of the vaccines he received hours before his fever started, but that's another topic for another day).

Anyway...you're doing all the right things. Keeping her hydrated is the most important thing. My doctor said don't worry if they're barely eating, just make sure they keep drinking. Good luck!

My DS is almost 3 and just went through this. All of a sudden he had a 104.2 fever. Fine one minute and 30 mo it's later he had a fever. Took him to the dr that same evening and the Dr said it was viral. Then his fever would not go down after piggy backing with Tylenol and Morton and I called the Drs office and they told me tepid bath, give ice pops (because he refused to drink anything), cool wash cloth under the armpits and a tshirt and diaper. This all helped almost immediately. His fever finally went down. This lasted 2 or 3 days for us. I hope your DD feels better soon!

Thank you all so much! I spoke to the dr again this evening had me raise her dose of tylenol and motrin said to continue piggybacking it.
Thankfully shes drinking a ton. Appetite is normal.

Did you all continue piggybacking meds for as long as the fever lasted? Did you wake up every 3 hours over night as well? Every night of the fever? When did you start pushing it back?
I kinda hate giving her so much meds for such a long period of time but i know and hate the high fever more. And i know fever is worst for her than anything else. I just want it to break already. I am and will continue to doo whateva it is to make her feel better.

Did your kids have any congestion? Shes become more congested tonight. Snoring and very stuffy and sounds very nasal.

I only piggy backed when his fever was over 103 and wouldn't go down with just the Motrin. Once he stayed at 102 the Motrin worked pretty well and he only got that as needed. I kept up with the ice pops and wash cloth u dee the armpits and that really helped. I only woke him up for meds if he felt really hot. that was only the first night though. He slept with me for almost a week. He only had the fever for 2 nights and 3 days but he was pretty clingy for a few days after. He wasn't congested at all but I agree with the humidifier or Zyrtec if she is congested.

We go through high fevers about once a year now. When he was younger 2-4, it was a few times a year. It was almost always viral. Two times it was Coxsackie, one was a massive ear infection... My son is allergic to Motrin so it was all Tylenol. Every 4 hours on the dot.. It would last anywhere from 2-6 days... Then just disappear..

My DD had a high fever when she had the flu in December and then she broke out in a similar high fever in March. I had taken her to the doctor like twice in one week and they told me the same thing, it was probably just a cold and do the Mortin/Tylenol thing. It went away for a few days and then came back. I brought her back to the doctor and told them the only other time she had a fever like this was when she had the flu. She wound up getting bloodwork done and they asked for a urine sample that same day. It turned out she had a bad UTI. If your gut tells you it's not a cold, go back and ask for blood/urine samples to be sure!

They tested her urine twice both times negative. Neg for strep. And same my dd only had a high fever like this with the flu.

Thankfully with the lil bump in the dosage and keeping it up for every 3 hours this morning she woke up and its down! Im so glad its not 103 BUT Im monitoring her and taking her temp every 2 hours. Im going to just stick with motrin for now and stop piggy backing it. If it goes back up I will go back to piggy backing it.

Sounds very much like it could be roseola. Just keep treating the fever. That's all you can do. Don't panic.

When DS has Roseola we were pushing close to 105 temp and it was a tough fever to fight, then it just stopped, then the rash came out.

My DD has had the same thing since Sunday. She was checked by the doctor and everything came back ok. She's had fevers near 102.5-101. It seems to spike the highest in the evening. She has now gotten a cough and a runny nose. Dr. Said its viral.

DS was two and had fever viruses every three weeks from April until the beginning of July. I thought it was something more serious and was a wreck. The fevers finally ended with roseola.

When DS has a fever, it's usually pretty high. We scared PM Pediatrics one night because his fever jumped to 104.5. My dad was the same way growing up from what my grandmother told me.

Also, when his fevers spike, he throws up. So on top of panicking about how high his temp is going, I have to chase him around with a bucket.
