Heading to Maryland tomorrow - what time?
I am travelling to Maryland (close to DC area) from LI (Suffolk County) tomorrow for a family party that starts at 8pm. Would like to get there earlier to spend time with my family that lives there, but am worried about hitting Jersey Shore traffic. Was thinking about leaving very early (like 5:30-6:00 am-ish), but do you think we'd be better off leaving around 9:00-10am or so and would then miss the beach traffic? I've heard nightmare stories about trying to drive through the Jersey Shore area on a weekend. When do you think would be the best time to leave LI?
And what about heading home on Sunday? Do you think if we left Maryland around 9-10am we would miss traffic leaving the Shore?
Thanks!

Sunday you are going to hit traffic no matter what time of the day coming back to NY. We travel a lot, and not matter morning, noon or night, we are always stuck somewhere! Sucks, and ruins the end of our trips every single time! Going there you should be fine leaving tomorrow morning. Most people travel on Fridays in my experience.

We go to dc all the time. My sister lives there. We usually leave crack of dawn early to get there. Sunday coming back I would either leave crack or dawn or really late. It took my sister 7 hours last week to get back from dc from here.

Sunday traffic is likely to be bad at any time!

Re: Heading to Maryland tomorrow - what time?
I live in Maryland... when I drive to my parents in East Islip I leave here between 6:30/7 on weekdays and Saturdays. When they leave here on Sunday to get back home they leave by 6:00.
When I leave NY to come here I leave around 6:30am and never hit traffic

Re: Heading to Maryland tomorrow - what time?
I would leave very early like 6am... coming home unless you leave super early as well you are bound to hit traffic.

We drive to DC a lot. We usually leave Saturday between 6-7:30am and rarely hit traffic. Coming home Sunday you either need to leave early morning or after 6pm.
