Anyone have laser treatments to treat a birthmark?
DD has a hemangioma (a vascular birthmark, sometimes nicknamed a "strawberry"). Her ped and derm are not worried as most of these heal by age 5. However, her derm says that sometimes they leave a scar and that laser treatments are a big help in reducing the appearance.
Has anyone had a laser treatment to reduce scarring? If so, did you use your derm or someone else? Did insurance cover it?
Thanks so much!!!

Re: Anyone have laser treatments to treat a birthmark?
Yes, I did when I was 15/16. I have a very very large port wine stain on my thigh and part of my calf. It was covered by insurance because, according to my derm, it had the potential to become cancerous. I did not complete the treatments because they were extremely painful but it did lighten the birthmark significantly - you can see it but I am way less self-conscious about it.
ETA: this was 20 years ago so I am sure treatments have advanced since then and are probably way less painful.

May I ask where the hemangioma is located on her? My daughter (who is now 15) had one on her cheek as a toddler and they told me it would likely not go away until she was about 10. We chose to have it removed, and in the process the doctor slipped and sliced her cheek open with the needle. She was left with a permanent scar, and she recently had scar revision surgery to repair what the doctor did. She is scheduled for laser treatments this summer as well.

I don't know about your child's specific situation but I had laser scar revision and it was fantastic and worked amazingly well.
I had it done at Dr. James Romanelli's office - he is a double board certified cosmetic surgeon and his PA did it. She is certified and trained to use the laser scar revision device. She is fantastic.
Hope that helps.
ETA - you can go for a free consultation.

So sorry your DD went through that! My DD has hers on her left shoulder blade. Best wishes for her laser treatments!
