Am I expecting too much? Daycare related.

I am asking this in all seriousness. Every time I pick up my dd she has a messy nose/face with dried snot all over it. Today she has a white mustache and I realized it was mixed with sunscreen. She doesn't even have a runny nose. When I am with her I just periodically clean her face with a wipe or wet paper towel.

This happens every single day. Today I was annoyed more than normal bc I didn't have wipes in car and was struggling looking for a tissue I had to wet to clean her up bc we were going somewhere.

I have seen other kids and they're the same. No one can wipe her face down throughout the day. So am i expecting too much?

When my DD was in the infant room she was always wiped down. Snot, food etc. I notice now that she is in the bigger room it is the same way as you describe your daughter. And I LOVE my DDs daycare and her teachers so I have no idea why they can't clean them as well. If I notice this tho, I ask for wipes or tissues and clean her before we leave. I feel the same way you do, it doesn't seem like such an impossible task--maybe an actual daycare provider can shed some light lol

We go through the same thing. I think they got the hint after I took him
To the sink every single day and spoke out loud saying we needed to clean a dirty face and boogie is. It has been much better but we still have days....

Can you just ask them to clean her face daily?

I would speak to the head teacher and just request them to please be mindful of the mucus and general baby goop that can collect on her face. My son's daycare is very good about this but if they were not I would have a talk with the head teacher.

This would annoy the crap out of me. Some sitters and DH have done this-not wipe them up properly. It's not that hard. I'd say something.

Am I expecting too much? Daycare related.

My son frequently has dried boogers on his face, but it doesn't bother me. I know I am constantly wiping his face (which is a huge battle) and then 2 mins later if he has a cold, he'll be covered again.

You are not asking too much.
DD was always immaculate when I picked her up. They should be wiping their faces and not letting them sit there with dried crud.
I'd say something

I would say something also. Thats yucky and I can imagine uncomfortable having dried crusty boogies on your face. I know my DD fights you when you wipe her nose but her sitter does it or at the least appologizes if her nose is groty when I pick her up. I also give her a pack of saline boogie wipes when in he diaper bag each week so it makes it easier for her to clean up. I would def say something though if it was an everyday thing.

I don't think you're expecting too much, but what you're experiencing IS normal. How big is her class? I know sometimes it can be overwhelming to wipe every child's face throughout the day. We usually had times to make sure every child got their hands washed (mostly after outside play and before/after eating). At one daycare we even had to have the kids brush their teeth everyday before nap. That was my most hated part of the day. lol. Very difficult to get that done with 15+ kids and very little teacher help. So I definitely do understand it being easy to overlook the face cleaning when you're just trying to get everything done (especially if there's still kids not potty trained in the classroom) while also keeping the others from making a ruckus while they wait. Not that they're purposely disregarding it, it's just easy to forget. HOWEVER, that said, I don't think it's difficult to at least give every child a cleaning before pickup time. I mean some kids just CAN'T stay clean. But dried boogies and the likes can at least be wiped away once or twice a day even if not constantly. If it were me, I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, but I would do as one of the PPs had said and ask for a wipe each time in a friendly way just so that they can see how you like her clean (obviously. lol) and maybe they will make a greater effort.

To answer a few questions, she has wipes there, she's potty trained and most of the kids are too. When I pick her up there is anywhere from 1-3 other children. A few times she's been the only one with a disgusting face. (Eta - I mean the only child left but still with a dirty face) She doesn't give me a hard time wiping her face and even goes and gets tissues on her own at home. Every am I wipe her face down to wipe sleep off. And I tell her ask your teachers to wipe your face.

A few weeks ago she did have a runny nose but it has now cleared up, yet it doesn't matter. Her face is gross regardless. Several times I do go and get a tissue or whatever and make a big deal about it. And I see other children that are in the same condition. I'll even say wow looks like you need to blow your nose.

I know this is different but growing up I had a nanny. I always knew when my parents would be home bc the nanny would attack me with a washcloth and comb. She always made me presentable for my parents which in talking with them recently about her face they've said they really appreciated. My dd hair is usually a mess but I would never complain about that. A dirty nose just looks like neglect to me.

I would definitely say something -- you are paying for your child to be cared for and looked after (and daycare is NOT cheap) and that IMO includes having their face wiped and being cleaned somewhat regularly. If your daycare is anything like mine, you are providing supplies of some sort anyways which I'm thinking wipes is probably part of, so its not like you are asking them to do something for which they don't have the supplies/resources. I would speak with head teacher.

This is very true also and I should have mentioned it when I responded -- you pay so much for daycare, they should be cared for above and beyond. And basic cleanliness is not asking too much.

As Nell would say - you pay a SHIT TON of money! She deserves a clean face!

I would say something. LO is in daycare and I recently had to say something about this. Since being in the 2 year old room, the snot that is coming down is running into the mouth which is just gross. I pay WAY too much money for LO to be eating snot all day.
