part-time babysitter with varying hours each week?
so this is sort of a spin-off to my post about considering being a SAHM.
After much discussion with DH, I've decided that I'm going to leave my full-time job at the end of the summer, but I'd like to keep my foot in the legal world and still make a few bucks, so my plan is to work about 10-12 hours per week doing per diem work.
I would like to hire someone that would come to my house to watch my 2 yo and 10 month old when I work but it wouldn't be the same hours each week.
I'm thinking a SAHM who has kids in school so her schedule is open, but she's just looking to make some extra money on the side would be a good fit.
so I guess my question is, do you think I could find someone like this? I don't want anyone that is counting on this money as income to support themselves or their family, bc there may be some weeks that I have no hours to give them.
also, what do you think is reasonable to pay per hour?
I live in Huntington so if anyone knows someone who may fit the bill, please send me pm.
thanks!

Re: part-time babysitter with varying hours each week?
I have a sitter just one day a week but it is same day of week. She does anywhere from 5-8 hours. She use to be available more days but found a job the other days. I pay 16 an hour. And guarantee a minimum of 5 hours. I found her on care.com. I think you will find someone but will prob have to pay more than someone with structures hours.

My babysitter used to do that before we hired her (same with PP: she likes our steady hours).
Care.com has a good selection of people working part time.
In our area, they were looking for $15-20. I paid in the higher range, with set hours to get someone with experience.

I had the same situation. And I needed a sitter for Sundays and sometimes holidays ( Veterans Day, Columbus Day) we paid her $20 per hour. 2 weeks paid vacation. My twin daughers were 15 months when I returned to work. We had her for about 2 years. Worth every cent!

Re: part-time babysitter with varying hours each week?
My DH has a rotating work schedule, we used to pay a SAHM who already watched kids in her house to watch DS a few hours in the morning, but she was OK with the constant rotating days/hours. I don't think I would have been able to find anyone to come to me though with that type of schedule, most people would want steady days/hours. I think for 2 kids maybe at least $15 an hour.
