infant carseat question

Would you purchase a new one for your next child if it was 5 years old and used for 2 kids?

Re: infant carseat question

I'd check the expiration date and check out the general wear to the seat. Does the cushioning seem like it's straying to disintegrate? Are the straps/buckles still easy to pull tight?

Eta: and keep in mind that you would need this for a few years, so predict the expiration date and wear 4 years from now (or however long til you'd get dc into a booster - so that's like 9 years total)

The seat would probably be close to expiring. Depending on how long you have and how long you plan to use the infant seat would have to be taken into consideration.

You would also have to try and remember of the straps were ever washed or wiped with anything other then a baby wipe or damp rag. Was the seat ever involved in an accident *no matter how minor, whether occupied or unoccupied* and was the seat ever checked as luggage or gate checked on an airplane.

Also, will the infant seat fit in the vehicle with the other 2 seats you have?

Would skipping an infant seat and going right to a rear facing convertible seat be an option you'd consider? There are plenty of convertible seats that fit a newborn well.

My kids grow fast. I typically use an infant seat for 4 months & then switch to convertible.

Unless the foam was falling apart or the thing was recalled, I would use it.

Seriously, I think people are too conservative on this site.

You can never be too conservative when it comes to car seat safety.

OP: if it wasn't expired and hadn't been in an accident, I'd definitely use it.

Thanks! I did use it for both of my girls for awhile, #1 till 12 months and #2 10 months, so there is some wear to it. I will check out the expiration date!
