Middle of night wakings - 7 mths
DS has no issues putting himself to sleep for both naps and bedtime - he always goes down awake. There was one week before I went back to work where he STTN (5.5 mths). That stopped the moment I started working again. Initially he was waking up once, sometimes twice. I would nurse him and put him back to bed without any issues. These past few weeks he has started waking up sometimes every 2 hours. He's not hungry. I''ll go in, pick him up and sit with him in the glider and he will fall back asleep. The moment I put him back in his bed he will wake up again. He's not really crying, he's mostly whining. I do think he's teething. I've been using the hylands tablets and on nights where he is extra fussy I give him Tylenol - neither seem to help bc he's still waking up.
What would you suggest I do? Should I essentially let him CIO? If his teeth are bothering him I would feel really bad just not attending to him. I however also don't want to encourage any bad habits.

The only suggestion I would have is not picking him up when he wakes. Walk over, rub his belly, comfort him, but don't pick him up. Also, try putting him in the crib while he's still a little awake, drowsy but awake. When I started doing that, DS started STTN, he's 5 months and has been STTN for a few weeks now, going on 2 months almost.

Honestly I just suffered through. My DS had phases where he was like that. We had nights where one of us would sleep on the floor and I even had to hold his hand through the slats on the crib. It sucked but it never lasted that long.

Sounds like normal sleep regression. DD has always been an excellent sleeper but she has definitely experienced some regression every now and then. Eventually she goes back to her usual sleep routine.

Do u think he might be going through a growth spurt? One of the times it happens is at 6 months but sometimes a little later, this might be the reason.
It can also be teething like u said, has he had any other symptoms of teething?

if he stopped sttn when you went back to work, hes not waking hungry and teething stuff isnt working...i think he may just miss you. i would go in and comfort him...but avoid picking him up if possible. or send DH in to him instead and see how he does.

Agree with previous poster. Also try Motrin at night (clear it with your pediatrician of course). I found Tylenol did not help my dd when she was teething. Motrin is an anti-inflammatory where Tylenol is not. Motrin used to help my dd.

The main symptom is that he gnaws on his hands and toys at all times. It's the only thing that makes me assume he's teething.

I thought he might miss me too.
DH and I take turns. He usually gets him to go back to bed by rocking him ... which I'm against ... but we're so eager to get him back to bed that you do what you have to do.

My DD is the same age. She was STTN very early, like 2 weeks lol (my son never did so it was a treat). Around 6 months she stopped and starting waking a couple times, I know it is her teeth, it stinks.

Same thing happening with my son who is also 7 months. He has nights where he sleeps through the nights and other nights like yesterday where he was up every 3-4 hours. He's teething and I'm sure there's growth spurts - so I just support him through it and when he's totally fine, then he's back to his old thing.

Re: Middle of night wakings - 7 mths
DD did that too at 7 months, then again at 9 months. Teething was awful too. I also found that a week before (yes, an entire week before) she gets sick she starts having bad sleep...and then of course while she's sick.
I usually let her CIO, unless she's out of control. My Pediatrician also suggested not picking her up, rubbing her belly until she calms down enough to fall asleep. They need to be able to learn to fall asleep on their own so when they wake in the middle of the night they can get themselves back to sleep.
good luck..it gets better...DD#1 was an awesome sleeper, this one...not so much. i am exhausted, but soon it will pass...i HOPE!!
