if you saw a lactation consultant, was it covered by insurance?
I just got two different answers when I called Cigna. Submitting a claim but wondering if this is typically converted or not.
Thanks!

Re: if you saw a lactation consultant, was it covered by insurance?
Only parts of mine was covered. Any services that were centered around DD were covered. ie: weighing her and assessing her latch, feeding etc. then she showed me different positions to use. That part wasn't covered bc I was listed as the patient not DD.
I had to pay OOP and submit for reimbursement. Out of the 500 I spent I was reimbursed for 350.

Re: if you saw a lactation consultant, was it covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, I did not select a lactation consultant from my insurance. I was so desperate that I just picked someone without thinking about that. But, I know that they do have LC's that are covered.

I have Cigna too, LC's are only covered while you are a patient in the hospital after giving birth. But it doesn't hurt to submit the claim and see.

Yes but it was because my pediatricians office has one and they bill through one of the Drs

Thanks that what I was told. Itv just stinks because I wasnt able to get an appointment during my stay. I think they were short staffed because it was Passover/Easter weekend(?) I'm going to try and fight it on that account. So annoying!!

I think if you were to get a note from the hospital stating that despite your attempts they were unable to accommodate you, you might be able to get an exception. Or even if you were to write a letter to that effect.

I saw one that was a pediatrician also so they bill through insurance. I paid a copay for myself and one for dd and that was it. There are a few offices linked together now you can find if you look up alliedbreastfeeding.com

Re: if you saw a lactation consultant, was it covered by insurance?
it was covered, but because she was out of network it hit my out of network deductible, which i hadn't come close to meeting. i don't know how it works when they're hospital or pediatrician office staff, but mine worked independently so i'm pretty sure she was considered out of network for everyone, but took insurance. if that makes sense.
