Thinking of going to Boston for Memorial Day weekend. What do we see, where do we stay, where do we eat?

Boston with kids!

We were just in Boston this past weekend - the Science Museum was really interesting and mostly geared towards kids in the 5-12 yr old range, I would say (although there were parts of it that I found really interesting too!). We did the Duck Boat tour which was fun. I loved walking the Freedom trail and depending on the age, I think kids would enjoy it also (maybe 7-8 yrs old and up). We didn't get to the aquarium, but it looked good, too. We also did the Prudential Center, which I would also recommend, depending on the age of the kids.

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Boston, in the Theater District. The hotel was just renovated and very nice (but the room was definitely on the small side). It was a very short walk from Boston Common, and we pretty much walked everywhere from the hotel.

As far as meals, we ate at Union Oyster House - pretty good; Gaslight Bistro - close to the hotel, (but not in the "main" part of the city) which was excellent (although probably not great for young kids); and Post 390 - we went there for Easter brunch - it was OK, but I don't think they were really prepared for an early brunch crowd. Stephanie's on Newbury Street came highly recommended from LIF - but is closed for renovations. Two other LIF recommendations - Neptunes Oyster Bar was a 3 1/2 hour wait (at 5:30 on Fri night - Not happening!) and Giaccamos - had a line literally a block long (again, not happening! ). But we had really great dessert at Modern Pastry Shop and heard that Mike's Pastry's is also really good (they are on the same street and we saw dozens of people walking around with boxes from Mikes).

Re: Boston with kids!

We went last summer with 2 kids: 2.5 & 4

I agree with Duck tours, Freedom trail (esp with the USS Constitution & the affiliated museum), aquarium & we loved the Boston tea party museum. We continued to Cape Cod (it was a week vacation), but whale watching was DEF a BIG highlight & you can take a long tour out of Boston. My kid has been infatuated with whales since that day. It really is stunning.

Boston is small: if you stay somewhat near the aquarium, everything is a short walk away.

We ate everywhere. Our kids do very well in restaurants & eat adult food. I guess this depends on your family & your kid(s). We would go with the kids as soon as the restaurants opened for dinner & were always welcomed. Our fav was Row 34 (we went 3X... it has a great raw bar & lots of amazing fish).
