Cutoff for who to invite to birthday party?

Who do you invite to parties as far as kids? Whole nursery class? Mom friends that you socialize with? Acquaintances that you occasionally have play dates with? Also, if you haven't spoken or seen someone in a certain amount of time....what is that time frame for NOT inviting them? 3 months? 6 months?

Where do you draw the line lol?

Cutoff for who to invite to birthday party?

My DS will be 4 next month and we are having his first "kid" party. His first 3 birthdays were family and our friends and their kids. This year we will have daycare friends (even though we left that daycare in Feb. after we moved), cousins, and our friends kids. No grandparents, friends without kids, or extended family. We will have them over on his actual birthday for pizza & cake.

When having it at a kids place we invite family with kids and my MIL and FIL. We also invite friends that we speak to regularly with their kids. I have a couple of friends that I've known since grade school that we invite with their kids. We don't always talk and see each other but we've been friends for over 20 years and when we do get together it's like not a day has passed. We haven't invited school friends and won't for my DS'S upcoming 3rd birthday but for my twins' 5th birthday we will invite their whole pre k class since it'll be their last year with their friends before they part ways to kindergarten. Pretty much it's only friends and family that we speak to regularly with kids.

I have friends that I regularly speak to/see who have kids so we invited them. Besides that, just family -- our parents and siblings.

Family with small kids, friends who are as much family as our real families are, siblings and in laws. 30 people total. Low Key barbecue.

When she is In pre--k I plan to do the party above and a separate kid party.

We have a late summer bday so by then, school friends are forgotten. We don't invite any of them. It's our friends kids who he has play dates with often and cousins.

Re: Cutoff for who to invite to birthday party?

I think its different with every situation. Our girls will just be starting school in sept so we probably aren't inviting class kids. If there are kids we have play dates with then we will include just those kids. If we included all its another 14 kids invited on top of 15 or so we already have that do come. So we keep it to mostly my friends kids who we have play dates with. The issue we have is that we can't just invite grandparents and leave it at that. We invite one cousin with kids the then need to include their parents, then the other sides aunts/uncles and it ends up being a bunch of adults standing around at a kiddie party. Plus MIL thinks its like a wedding where she gets a certain # of invites and wants to include extended family!! LOL (um , no, not at a 1.5 hr kiddie party where my kids will be playing the whole time). It's really annoying.

Id probably cut off anyone we didn't talk to in 3 months and who my kids didn't play with.

Cutoff for who to invite to birthday party?

A few things to take into account:
Budget
Place of party

Personally, im inviting only the few kids i know my dd plays with everyday at school. She has 4 kids i hear non stop about. Ive had play dates with 2 of them and are friendly with the moms. The other 2 ive met and spoken briefly to.
My dd bday is going to be in our backyard.
IF i was having it at a party place, i probably would have invited the whole class. Shes gotten invited to 3 parties where the parent invited the whole class. Im not going to do that back only because of budget.
We have a huge family, plus a few close friends and were at 50 people already.
