Car Seat Recommendations

I need a car seat for my 3 year old who is tall and thin. He is sitting in the evenflo syphony now but I would like to give that to my 7 month old and get my 3 year old something that will last a long time. My DD is in the Britax Marathon which Im not a fan of. I want something that will last for a long time, that has all the things he will need as he grows.
Thanks so much!

Graco has the Nautilus (I think that's the name) is the multi-stage, it's got the convertible car seat, high-back booster, and backless booster.

If he's FFing, the nautilus or Argos are good choices. The Argos is the same as the nautilus except it has a no rethread harness which IMO is easier.

also if he's FFing, a diono would probably be a waste bc it also RF's so you'd be losing half of its purpose and its not really recommended in booster mode. For the price, I wouldnt. Unless he's RFing still.

DS is 4, and i have him in a Britax Frontier. it only goes forward facing... it has a harness that can handle up to i believe 90 pounds. THEN it also can be a high back booster that uses the vehicle seatbelt. so it really will last them a long time. it has 2 cup holders and he's very comfortable in it.

britax frontier if you are ready for them to be forward facing.

I am fan of britax cause I find them easy to install I also liked that I could keep her in a 5 point harness till she is 90lbs if I wanted too. this seat will last you till you decide they can go in a no back booster.

for my parents car I got her the natilius 3in one

Now that they fixed the buckle issue - I love my Graco Argos. I have 4.

Re: Car Seat Recommendations

I can't recommend a specific seat for you, other than to go the store and really try out all of them. The buckling feature of each one is what made me decide on mine. And I'd never buy another Graco...they are way too hard for me to unbuckle.

With that said, don't necessarily go by the idea of keeping DC in it up to 90lbs, unless you know that your DC is on the larger side. My DD is almost 9, and is still only 65lbs; and she is really average-sized compared with the other 3rd graders (even my almost 6yo is only 45lbs). I can't even imagine having her in a seat up to 90lbs, even though they say it is recommended, especially a full size carseat that converts to a high back booster. She fights me every single day about sitting in her high back booster; telling me that she is like a baby, and that none of her friends have to sit in seats in their cars. I am willing to take off the back once she turns 9, but that's about it. It is one thing that I feel is important, but to think that she'd still be sitting in a big seat up to 90lbs would definately be out of the question.

I have to agree...I have a 6 and almost 8 year old in boosters with the harness still and let me tell you, if I had them in the harness until 90 pounds they might be in college! My almost 8 year old is 42 pounds and my 6 year old is 44 pounds, no where near the limits of even the Nautilus, though they will hit the height way before the weight limit. My 8 year old fights me every day about the car seat, but I try to rationalize it with her...she will be moving to the high back booster soon because I know she is able to sit appropriately in it (I did the checklist with her). For me to think she would use the harness until 90 pounds would be totally unreasonable.

Which high back booster do you have? Im wondering if I should get one of those instead of a regular car seat. My son is tall for his age and Im not sure it would be necessary to get a regular car seat again if I can give the even flo to my 7 month old DS later on.

If you're talking about a high back booster for a 3 year old, I wouldnt. Even though he may fit the minimum specs, children's bodies are not mature enough to sit in them until 5, even 6 years old. It's a matter of safety.
