What time does your 10 month old eat dinner?

DS is 10 months old and is always fussy after daycare. I pick him up at 4:30 and nurse him right when we get home (4:40). After that, he will not let me put him down and wants to be held. I try playing with him, but he's not having it 90% of the time. At this point, I have just been putting him in the ergo and getting stuff done around the house (dinner prep, washing bottles, etc). We then eat dinner as a family at 5:45. After dinner, he is like a different kid, but at that point, he only has like 15-25 minutes to play.

Do you think I should move up his dinner time? Last night, I fed him before DH and I ate (closer to 5) and then he just played on the floor as we ate dinner.

He nurses again around 7 and is in bed by 7:15.

WWYD? TIA

Sounds like he might be hungry. When does he last eat before you pick him up? My twins 10 months also, eat food around 4:30. I then give them their bottle at around 7:15 and in bed at 7:30.

The witching hour!!

DS had times like this - they came and went.

Sometimes it might not be anything other than just the mood and time of day and he will probably get past it after a little time.

For me, things he really loved helped a lot -- a Baby Einstein DVD which I rarely let him watch anything on a screen but once in a while when he needs it or for that fussy period each day, I would -- he also loves music, the Beatles mostly, so if I put on that for him it gets him to turn around a bit.

We then began daily baths -- the bath is like a reset button for him after daycare. Helps a ton.

It sounds to me like he just wants to be close to you after daycare. I don't think he's necessarily hungry, since you did nurse him. My son sometimes does the same thing.

This is true too - I should add, that what I wrote above, there are times he wants the music or the puppet DVD but he wants me to HOLD him and we watch or listen, together. Or read a book.

I think this might be why bath time is also so enjoyed -- because I'm close to him, bathing him, so I do think they miss us while we are at work, for sure. And it's amazing to think about because even at that age - they know. Chat Icon

I was between this idea and the hungry idea.

I definitely don't mind cuddling on the couch with him (and definitely prefer that over chores!), but we all also need to eat. He is also (usually) in an awesome mood after dinner so that's why I also think he might just be hungry.

The last time he eats at daycare is around 2:30. He has cheerios and milk out of a sippy cup (since he now refuses to drink a bottle).

DS always ate when we did, which is 6:30/7pm. However, even at 2 years old, he basically snacks from 3-6pm because he's just really hungry then. Sounds like your son is hungry so if you don't want to give him dinner early, I'd add a snack around then.

DS (11 mos) won't go down anywhere near 7pm and if he does we are doomed for a 3 or 4 am wakeup. He's not a big sleeper. So that said, he gets two dinners 5 & 7pm) and a bottle (830pm before bedtime).
