Would you keep your DC at the peanut free table?
5yo DS has a mild nut allergy. His lips/tongue will get irritated and/or burn if they touch something with peanuts. We usually give him Benadryl. His preschool was a nut free school so we never worried. DS just started kindergarten last week and I just learned that DS sits by himself for snack because it is the peanut free table and sits isolated from most of his classmates in the cafeteria during lunch.
Would you keep your kid isolated at the peanut free table?
I think I would prefer him to be with the other kids. DS said kids are not allowed to share food. Not sure if it that is a rule just with DS since he has food allergies.

Both of my DS' have a peanut allergy. When they hit kindergarten, I did not have them sit at the allergy table. They know not to eat anyone else's food.

I would have him sit at the regular table. I know at our school there is no food sharing at all and there is a lunch matron for each class who keeps a pretty good eye out.

Since it is not a severe allergy I would definitely have him sit with his class. No real reason for separation and as long as he knows not to share food. Also remind him no one should share drink just incase leave residue of peanuts.

Re: Would you keep your DC at the peanut free table?
My DD has a nut allergy and I never had her sit alone during snack time or lunch. If your son knows not to eat anything from the other children and to alert the teacher if he feels any indication of being exposed to nuts then he should be fine sitting with the other children. I also made sure the school nurse had medication to give to my daughter just in case something happened.

Re: Would you keep your DC at the peanut free table?
My DS just started K too and has moderate peanut and tree nut allergies (has an epipen, etc). We have him at the regular table. Our school is conscious and puts the kids with peanut products at the opposite side of the table from the allergy kids. They wash the table in between each lunch period. DS is only too aware he can not share anyone else's food or drinks. So we are comfortable with that and did not want him socially isolated at the peanut free table. Not an easy decision, though.
