The joke is that they're Googling "Who is this Ferguson guy?" 
Far cry from Kim's Pulitzer Prize winning Essay:
I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don’t have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing.

Here is what the Kardashian-West/Jenners were doing during Commmon's speech on Ferguson, Mo
A lot of people tweeted this when MTV cut to the audience cam during his speech. Buzzfeed said they reached out to MTV to confirm that the footage of the Kardashians texting happened during the moment of silence and wasn’t on a delay and shown by mistake.
Hopefully it was on a delay.

They are just vapid wastes of space without a brain cell or a purpose in life between them.
All they know how to do is take and post selfies.

I guess from a journalism standpoint, they didn't want to infer they were doing this without it being true. At least that's how I took it.

I'm a little confused...that paragraph was from a blog post she made..it aired on one of the episodes when she went Austria.
What does that have to do with that shot of them at the VMA's on their phones during Common's speech?

DListed (one of the sites I got this story from) was showing the irony of her essay on being judged by your skin, & her ignoring the Ferguson segment at the VMA's where the whole crux of the rioting in Ferguson is racial tension.
