Can't help but be sad... 1st day of school (Dad related)
Its her first day of first grade today. Exciting and she's all smiles. She's brave and anxious to see her friends, make new ones and explore.
Yes I am proud and of course I'm happy.... but..
One year ago I put AJ's photo on the local news website so my Dad could see her picture from his hospital bed. He missed it because they were draining fluid from him. So we went to the hospital and showed him the photo of her happy little self. Oh how he loved it. Promised he'd be home to give her a special gift. He had missed our birthdays because he was in the hospital and wanted to take her to see Monsters University as soon as he was out. He had written a sci fi story he wanted me to proof. He was in such a great mood that day. I remember him calling us when we got outside and telling us he's at the window waving like a clown! LOL
Neither promise happened of course.
We never saw MU in movies. I just couldn't. She saw it when it was on Netflix. I never got to read the story. My step mother refused to let me touch that laptop and my brother doesn't know the password or how to get it open so they pretty much made it a paperweight. If it still exists.
My Dad never got to see his granddaughter's first day of school or Kindergarten graduation.
My sister was promoted to E5 last week and went out on deployment on Friday for a 10m duty. Dad's with her. Ironic because its just the two of them and also because she really wanted his input on how to deal with the separation anxiety of being away from her 2.5yr daughter for so very long. Who better to explain and sympathize than her Sailor Dad who put in long orders himself?
Ugh. Just sucks!
 bit of a pity party here.
