I could use some potty training tips...

So, yesterday I began potty training DS. I read up on the 3 Day Method and I decided to use a modified method because quite frankly, we both can't sit in the house staring at each other for 3 days Chat Icon .
Yesterday he had about 4 accidents in the morning, I kept catching him and rushing him to the potty. Finally in the early evening he peed very little on the potty, but he jumped off onto my lap right away and cried. I think the act of him peeing freaked him out.
So, today I began again with the undies. He held it in for about 3 hours. I kept telling him to tell me when he had to go, but nothing. Finally we decided to go out - I bring him to the potty, nothing. He just whined and jumped into my arms.
I put a pull up on him and we go out.
We come home, it's dry.
He's napping now, and I'm sure he's peeing a lot in his pull up.

My question is - should I give it a rest or keep going? I think he got freaked out when he peed in the potty. I'm really not sure if I should give it a rest for a few months or keep trying....thanks if u got this far!!

IMO I'd stick with the 3 day method and not switch back and forth to diapers/pullups. It can cause a bit of confusion for them. The first day of the 3day is pure hell IMO. My DS peed in his legos even!!!!!

We did nto stay int he house for 3 days.

Day 2 went went to the park and even went to a birthday party later part of day 2. But I think you need to stay home for at least a day and maybe day 2 depending on how they are doing.

What did you do for nap time? You kept him in undies?

I stuck to the method and have had DD in undies for naps and night. She usually stays dry but last night she did have one accident. We're also staying in but we just came home from a trip so I'm kind of glad to have a few days at home. I was so close to putting a diaper or pull up on her today and I'm so glad I didn't bc within minutes of that she finally went and it was the first time we got any in the potty. She's still napping so we'll see what happens the rest of the day. I feel like even though we've had so little progress I don't want it all to go to waste so I'm going to try my best to stick to it for the full three days. Hope we both have some progress (or a miracle) by tomorrow night!

Re: I could use some potty training tips...

Is he going on the big potty or a small training potty?

We did a modified 3-day and we used both the toilet with seat for him and a small training potty.

The big toilet may be a little intimidating for him.

Also, we did use pull-ups at night for a few months (DS wasn't napping anymore when we began potty training) and it didn't undo any underwear training we had done in previous days.

We did undies for nap and pull up for night at first. But the change from undies and pull-ups made for confusion and meltdowns so we just decided we would deal with accidents. Well we never had them.

DS never liked the training potty or sitting down to pee. We went straight to the big toilet (with step stool) and standing up to pee. He did much better with that and was trained within 3 days. Poop took a little longer. He still wears pull ups at night bc he still wakes up wet in the morning.

Re: I could use some potty training tips...

I potty trained my soon to be three year old last month. I put her in underwear and used a sticker chart. She mastered peeing rather quickly but pooping took longer...ultimately I had to make another chart and stickers were given just for pooping and a prize was put on top of the refrigerator if she pooped on the potty...It took her a little less than a week to be trained. Once she went she pooped on the potty she was fine it was the initial fear for her. I will say we stayed home and it was a commitment and we didn't go back to pull ups.
