milk protein intolerance

if your little one had a milk protein intolerance what were the signs that had you concerned?

DS is 5 weeks old and his poop has been all over the place...3 weeks ago it was green and foamy bc of foremilk in balance and then it became yellow and occasionally seedy and now i can't tell if for the past week or so if it has any mucus in it or not or if its just what his poop is like (its watery and a little goopy but not really snotty). he's totally happy, a little gassy but not very fussy (unless he's hungry or tired but then i can usually calm him down), eats great and sleeps well, pees plenty its just i am not sure about his poop.

in reading stuff on line it seems like mucus could be a sign of an intolerance but some people say that if that's the only sign then its probably ok.

We dont go back to the Ped for another 3 weeks but i can always call but i am just not sure if i am making something out of nothing or not.

2 of mine had it. With both of them, they had green poop with specks of blood in it, sometimes mucousy. They both also had times of being in visible pain.

If he's "totally happy" I think he's fine.

DS had blood in his BMs. If you're worried you can always have the doctor test one of his dirty diapers just to ease your mind.

DS has a milk protein allergy (5 weeks also). He was very fussy all the time and very uncomfortable. It was very sad to see him in pain! It took 2 seconds at the pediatrician for them to test (they gave me a little card where I swiped his poop 3 days in a row).

Dd had a milk protein allergy. We saw:

Inconsolable fussiness/gas
Lots of poops (6-8/day)
Eczema
Wheezing
And at doctors office, positive for blood in stool

All this after switching to a gentle formula, then nutramigen. We ultimately got on an rx formula and after about 2-3 weeks she was a different baby.

Both my ds's had this. They were perfectly fine and happy but had green mucousy poops.

my son was totally happy and didn't show any signs (other than gas) until almost 4 months. He started having increased BMs, mucus in his BMs, diarrhea and then all of a sudden, blood in his BMs.

Once we switched to Alimentum, he was totally fine!!

If you are breast feeding your DC may be reacting to foods other then milk protein. In young infants food allergies can all present the same way. My DD is allergic to soy and had poop with blood and mucus the first time I had a lot of it in one day. She has also reacted when I ate omlets but not small amounts of eggs in prepared foods. Try to keep a food diary to see what you are eating on days your baby has muscus in his poop. If you see a pattern then I would totally eliminate the food and see if it gets better. My pediatrician's advice was to avoid any foods that seems to upset DD "normal" behaviors. I was told I may want to limit or avoid dairy since 50% of kids that are allergic to soy are also allergic to milk protein and vice versa.

I m BFing. It's been going on for just shy of 2 weeks. All his poops look this way. I have called the ped. He's not fussy and I don't notice a change after a particular food. I have started cutting back on obvious dairy (just a splash in my coffee and oatmeal) but I know that it can take a while for things to her better.

My dd used to have explosive diarrhea 3-4 times on a bad day twice on a good day. It was heartbreaking. She didnt sleep well because she would wake up and just cry and not be able to get back to sleep because she was so gassy. I used to have to give her pedialyte every few days to clear her out and then finally i decided to change her formula. And i had a brsnd new baby.

It doesnt 100% sound like your having issues. It sounds more like his digestive track just maturing and getting used to its function.
