LO and his crazy eating schedule

My lo is 6 weeks old
He was eating a steady 4 oz of formula

The last few days he has been a over the board with how much and when he wants to eat

Every 3 hours we attempt to feed him 4 oz of his powder formula- the last few days he would be screaming for more to eat, so we give him another 2 oz and this was all within a 2 hour time frame - so it seems he is eating every 2 rather than 3 hours

So then I make 6 oz bottles and now he doesn't even finish it. And at night it seems he only eats 3 or so and during the day he can't get enough.
I've tried making smaller bottles at night and larger during the day but it never works in my favor

I am trying to get him on a schedule since he is starting daycare .

Anyone have any suggestions
I feel like we are wasting so much formula

6 weeks is really young and I wouldn't even try to get him on a schedule. He is growing so quickly and needs a lot of food.

I'd suggest 5 oz bottles during the day if he isn't finishing the 6 oz. If he's eating less at night, then stick to the 4 oz at night. If he finishes a bottle, you can always make another 2 oz and offer that.

It's really hard b/c I hate to waste, but you have to get over the "we're wasting formula" feeling and just feed as much as your LO wants. As he gets older, he'll put himself on more of a schedule and will even out on how many oz he wants per bottle. But again, 6 weeks is probably just too young to expect that.

At 6 weeks, babies typically have a growth spurt which could account for the increased feeding during the day. I'd follow his lead And hold off for a week or 2 on the schedule.

My SIL used to increase the oz. per week by .5oz or 1 oz. until they got to 8oz. As the oz. increased she spaced out the timing more.

I would feed him on demand. Their schedule and amounts will change. Daycare will go with the babies schedule at that age.
