Switching to milk in sippy

Dds have been using straw sippys from 9 mo. I want to get them off bottles now at 18 mo. Mostly bc they are biting through the nipples and tired of fishing new ones out of storage. Plus they are 18 mo. It's time.

The issue is dd1 refuses milk in it and dd2 will take it but won't drink as much. They get other dairy but I think they really need these calories from the milk since they are scrawny. And they are hungry in the am and should have something. They get bottles when they wake and before bed.

So my question is, how do I transition? Just keep offering the milk sippy and if they refuse they refuse? They won't take the spout cups at all. Just a straw.

Eventually they'll get that bottles,aren't coming back. It won't take long only a cranky day or two.

I just got rid of the bottles and only offered the sippy. They won't lose that many calories I'm a short time frame.

I'm just scared she will not bother and just not drink it.

If she's thirsty she will drink. Your DDs will get that they are not getting bottles anymore.

I'm going to try giving milk at lunch today too. I know she will be thirsty then. Maybe that will get her used to it.

My kids never drank milk from their sippy cups. Neither liked it. I can get dd to drink almond milk now at 2.5. The dr just told me to up their dairy. They each eat 2 yogurts/day and cheese, which is more than the daily requirement.

There was a recent thread similar to this where several posters suggested the Nuk Active sippy as a transition off the bottle. I got one for DS and he is happy to drink his milk out of those.

The downside is they are very similar to a bottle so I'm not sure how it's really that different. He has been drinking water out of the sippy since he was an infant but wouldn't really take much milk from one.

They are trying to switch DD to a sippy for milk at daycare because once she goes to the toddler room next month (she'll be 18mo), they don't use bottles. She refuses it, no matter what cup they give her. Same when we try it at home. She's now started to take larger bottles in the AM and PM, I'm sure because she's trying to make up for not having milk during the day.

I would love to just take the bottles away 100%, but with her dairy allergy, I'm concerned she won't get enough calcium without drinking the soy milk. We've tried to get her to eat soy yogurt and soy cheese and she absolutely won't eat them (and I don't blame her, I think they taste terrible too).

I figure I'll discuss this with her ped at her 18mo appt next month and then go from there. Good luck!!
