Those with 7 month olds...

...what are you feeding them/how much?
Right now (per day) we are doing:
4 tablespoons oatmeal
4 oz fruit stage 2
2.5 oz veg stage 1 or 2
22-24 oz formula
Is this a typical amount -- or should we start to increase fruit and veggies?

I'd like to add yogurt to the mix
When is it typical to start?
Do your kids eat puffs or anything else?

My DS is 7 months

Re: Those with 7 month olds...

DS gets:
3 tbs oatmeal
About 30 oz give or take of formula throughout the day
turkey/chicken for lunch
veggie/fruit for dinner

We are just starting the meats this week so he will prob not take as much formula. He couldn't have oatmeal at night bc gets gets really gassy, so instead of giving it twice a day, he gets 3 tbs. of oatmeal in the morning and then turkey or chicken for lunch, veggie or fruit for dinner. My ped said I could introduce yogurt next month. I forgot to ask about the puffs though- I want to check them out bc I think he might be ready.

I feel like he is eating a good amt of food, but only 22-24 oz of formula which seems like very little to me. I know most of their nutrition comes from formula. Wondering if i should be concerned about that.

Re: Those with 7 month olds...

My ped said he would want less formula once he started the foods bc he is just fuller so I think it's normal. And now that we are introducing more foods he will want even less. I find I have to play it by ear most days with his bottles bc sometimes he'll want 4 oz here....4 oz there - not the normal full bottle like when he was younger. HTH!

Re: Those with 7 month olds...

Julian eats 8 ounces of formula at 7am mixed with two tablespoons of Oatmeal Cereal.

At 10am he used to get a bottle but he showed so little interest in the bottle at this time that around 5 months we eliminated it in lieu of two jars of solids. So, he eats two fruits usually at this time or, we also just started him on organic greek yogurt. So, he'll either have Earth's Best organic stage two fruits (he loves them all) or one jar of that with greek yogurt instead of the second jar.

I should also mention we started him on the multi-vitamin that the ped gave us a script for around six months. We put the eyedropper of it into his food.

1pm he gets another 8 ounce bottle that he usually takes all of or at least 6 ounces, if not all of it. Then, he gets a vegetable. Usually sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, green beans, squash, etc.

4pm - this is the time where we are starting to notice that the more the solids increase the interest in the bottle decreases a bit. So, we feel that we will eliminate another bottle soon and we think it'll be this time because this is the one he is showing least interest in. It also would then be bottle, food, bottle, food, rather than bottle, food, food again, and back to bottle so it's evenly spaced out. IDK if that matters lol, just our thoughts. So, after this bottle - he usually has 6 ounces but yesterday took five so that's why I'm thinking this will be next on the chopping block. But after this he has another jar - usually another veggie or a meat (chicken, turkey, wild rice, etc.). I will just give him two jars then instead.

7pm - his last bottle, eight ounces with two more tablespoons of oatmeal. Keep in mind, our son is very tall for his age and eats a lot.

We are also going to skip doing Stage Three and just transition him to baby friendly and healthy adult or table foods. Ped suggested it and said it'll save us money because why buy the stage three when I can just make a lot of it and have him eat some of our food. So, we are going to transition to that between now and like 10/11 months. That's the goal.

We will still make sure he gets the recommended amount of formula the ped said he has to have until 11/12 months and then he can switch to whole milk.

I also began giving him water about a week ago, ped suggested it. He started with the nubby sippy cup and is now TRYING with all his might to master the straw lol. He'll get there. I also tried giving him a cup to drink out of and he was pretty darn good considering!!! We thought it was so funny! He took right to it, lol.

So far we have intro'd cheerios, cheese, the yogurt like I mentioned, tofu which he liked (the silken I recommend most because it is the softest), and applesauce (organic, unsweetened), and a scrambled egg the ped said we could try and he actually did like it.

Re: Those with 7 month olds...

Oh the puffs -- Whole Foods has a brand of things like puffs and they are actually made with KALE! They are yummy!

So he likes them and also we give him Baby MUM-MUMs which dual-purpose as things to help teething!

Re: Those with 7 month olds...

A lot..

* A 6 oz bottle of BM first thing in the am
* About 4-5 tbsp of cereal w/about 3oz of bm with a stage 1 fruit for bfast
* Stage 2 veggie and stage 2 fruit for lunch
* same cereal as above with a stage 2 veggie for dinner
* 7oz bottle of BM at bedtime

His ped wants him to gain more weight. He's 25th% in weight but 75th% in length.
