Pumping question

DD is 8 mos old and EBF. I work full time and pump twice while at work. I used to get 4-6 oz per session, but all of a sudden I'm barely getting 3 oz per session. Does this mean my supply has dropped or could there be something wrong with my pump? Any suggestions on what to do would be helpful. I really want to Continue BF til DD is 1. TIA!

Re: Pumping question

Have you gotten AF yet since giving birth? A lot of women say their supply takes a hit when they get AF, but many find it to only be temporary.

Do you take any supplements? Like fenugreek, mothers milk plus, etc? They definitely help with supply.

Pumping question

I got AF for the 1st time last month. Actually, it's been about 5 wks so I'm wondering if I could be getting it again soon. I'm not taking any supplements, but maybe I should look into that. Thanks!

Re: Pumping question

Yes, could be AF. Also does your LO take solids now? I have heard it is common to see a decrease in supply when babies start solids, as they are not taking as much milk when they nurse. This could also account for the drop in output.

Have you tried replacing your pump parts one by one to see if it is the pump?

Re: Pumping question

We are on parallel paths. DD is 8 mos and I got AF when she was 7 mos and recently had my second since giving birth.

My goal was to bf for 6 mos, which I reached and went a bit beyond. I also took a big hit with my milk production and I just wasn't producing anywhere near her milk intake. I also travel for work and it was extremely difficult to pump (getting next to nothing on my last trip).

DD is on formula now and doing great. I would've liked to continue but happy she's doing so well. At this point, it's less than 4 mos until whole milk, which I know will fly by.

Not much more to add other than continuing with water intake and supplements suggested on here. Good luck!

Re: Pumping question

i always had a dip right before my AF every month -

over compensate with lots and lots of water and I took fenugreek pills (3-4 pills - 3-4 times a day!!) It worked for me!

BF babies start consuming less around this time too, especially if you are giving solids. I wouldn't worry.

You should also check your membranes. Whenever I have a big drop it's because there is a tear in the membrane. HTH

Re: Pumping question

Wow!!! This is happening to me now and it's been upsetting. I used to pump around 6 oz then 5 oz while at work... The past 2 1/2 weeks I'm only getting 4 oz and then 2-3 oz while at work. I'm getting so discouraged and trying the fenugreek, Gatorade and drinking tons of water with no difference. I also have no clue as to what's going on but I am starting to think maybe it's time to switch to formula and start getting some of my life back as I've been attached to my pump for 7 months. It's just discouraging for me to spend 20 mins and only get 2 oz when that won't even cover a feeding Chat Icon

Pumping question

I exclusively pump and supplement with formula due to low supply. I take fenugreek, lecithin (prevents clogs), more milk plus, drink water and Gatorade, eat oatmeal and lactation cookies, and I just started taking domperidone I'm hoping one, all, or some combination of these things will help my supply.

I've also heard about Moringa supplements. Haven't tried that one yet though.
