Bedding for first big boy bed
I think this winter we're going to get my 2.5 yo son into his first big boy bed. I think we may switch him to a larger room and let him use the full size bed we have stored away. Since we'll be doing the new room top to bottom, I'm torn between doing something fun and young (like Jake or Cars) or something classic (plaid?) that he won't out grow in a few years. I guess we could paint the room a neutral, or basic blue maybe? That way we could switch out the bedding and accessories in a few years.
I'm just wondering what you all did with this transition.

Do the room neutral and get character bedding.
I spent way too much money on bedding that I love (classic dots and stripes) and I also bought DD a Sofia the First blanket as a backup and she insists on Sophia being on the bed. The character sheets are so inexpensive and won't last too long. You can replace them in a few years with something he is more into at the time.

Re: Bedding for first big boy bed
We did a nautical theme for DS when he was 2.5 and moved into his "big boy room." He is 4 now and still looks great. Got a nice beige carpet and did a chair rail. Bottom is nautical blue and top is a nice beige. We got bedding from Bed Bath and Beyond. I don't see the bedding I got anymore, but it's a nice for a big boy room.
Here's some good choices... Bed Bath and Beyond Big Boy Bedding
We just put some cool nautical themed stuff on the walls we got from Christmas Tree Shops and other stuff we ordered online. Mostly stuff not that expensive so when we replace them in a few years it won't be so bad.
ETA - I really like the sports one bc you can go so many different ways with it and still can be used for years.

Re: Bedding for first big boy bed
We don't really like overly "baby" styles to begin with. So DS room was painted white. About 3/4 of the way up te wall there s a thick dark blue stripe. Then a thinner green stripe above it. When he was a baby we had a graphic blue and white crib set. Now that we moved him into a full size bed, we went with an airplane theme- but not over the top. We got airplane bedding in Home Goids, but paired it with a solid navy Tommy Hilfiger comforter. I bought a huge styrofoam airplane and painted it red and hung it on his wall. Then I used smaller airplane toys and red baskets to decorate.

Re: Bedding for first big boy bed
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm kind of leaning towards the character bedding but not going totally nuts with wall decals and all so we can switch it out when he gets tired of it.
Growing up my mom always made my brother and I have traditional/classic bedrooms so I'm kind of excited to do the reverse.

Re: Bedding for first big boy bed
We kept his same baby blue color and did an entire Star Wars Theme.
When he is older, if he chooses, we will switch to a more 'older' pattern.
With DD, we have lilac on the walls and we just switched to a Minnie Mouse themee-per her choosing.
I like to let the kids be kids!

We kept him in the same room and just bought sheets. He doesn't use the top sheet and wouldn't use a comforter so an entire set would be a waste right now.
