Moms of Boys re: circumcision

I am due with DS in a few short weeks. I discussed the circumcision with my OB at my recent appointment. She recommended I buy the Vaseline in tube format to place on DS while he is healing.

Where in the world do I purchase it in tube form? I only see if in the tubs.

Can Aquafor be used instead?

Target has it in the baby aisle with all the ointments. I grabbed a tube of Target brand back when my DS was born.

Why does it even matter though if it's from a tube or not? At home I used a tub of Vaseline and just gently blobbed it on and spread it out. I used the tube in my diaper bag.

How long do you have to add the Vaseline for? I planned to take stuff from the hospital, but was unsure how long we have to apply it for.

My hospital gave me several generic petroleum jelly tubes to bring home so I'm sure yours will too. You can always ask during your stay.

I'm guessing the doctor recommends tube version bc the tub can be exposed to germs easier (if using fingers to apply, open air contact, etc).

ETA I believe we stopped applying the petroleum jelly after a few days but I still use it to this day as needed as a skin protectant if things start to look red from diaper wetness.

The tube is probably more sanitary. They give it to you at the hospital.

Maybe for a week at most. He healed pretty quickly.

We used Neosporin. You can also use Bacitracin. Both come in tubes.

when we were at the hospital they gave individual packets -- like you would get ketchup in at mcdonalds.
when we got home we used vaseline on a gauze pad and put it over the pp. I didnt ever apply the vaseline directly on as I was afraid it would hurt him. It only lasted a week or two with the gauze (thank god) and after that we just did vaseline in lieu of diaper creame for diaper changes.

Re: Moms of Boys re: circumcision

When I had DS1 in the hospital they gave me a ton of single use "tubes" I liked them because you just squeeze it out and never have to really touch anything.

Their little pee pees are so red afterwards that i was afraid to touch it unless totally necessary.

With DS2 the hospital just gave me a tube kinda like what I buy now in the store. Again just squeeze it on the area and close the diaper.

It wasnt that long that I had to do that after they were born. Dont remember the exact length of time but you can tell...

You can use a tub however do not apply the Vaseline with your bare hands. Use a q tip instead. Place a quarter size amount on it and apply to the gauze. This will need to be done 2x a day (unless your dr told you to do more often) for about 7 days always apply the Vaseline directly on the gauze pad via the q tip then apply to the skin.
The thing to remember is not dipping the q tip back in the tub. Use a fresh one each tip you enter the tub
HTH

ETA: I'd only use vaseline. Not bacitracin etc

That's what we did too. We took two tubes and leave 1 in the diaper bag and 1 in her travel box. It's smaller and easier to travel with.
Was there a reason why your OB recommended the tube instead of the tub?
