organic formulas

My other DDs both got Similac Advanced formula (not organic). I would prefer an organic formula this time. Anyone prefer one organic brand over another, if so why? I'm leaning toward Similac's organic just because it's the brand we used in the past.

We used Earth's Best Sensitivity. I can't compare it to any others since it is all we used, but my DS had a sensitive tummy, and was 75% breast fed, and it still caused no problems. It is hard to find though- I could never find it in Stop n Shop, I would have to go to Whole Foods or order it off Diapers.com.

We used Earth's Best Sensitive. We started with Similac Ready to Feed but the powder is so much easier, plus DD had some gas in the beginning

Re: organic formulas

This was a fantastic article that helped me make my decision.

How to find the safest organic infant formula

My DS suddenly stopped pooping at about 6 weeks. I was really struggling with the fact that BFing wasn't working, and DS had been supplemented with formula since birth since he was in the NICU. He started on Enfamil Newborn, and then switched regular Enfamil. When he stopped pooping, it took a while to figure if it was just simple constipation, infrequency, or something more. The ped suggested trying a sensitive formula, but I was concerned about the maltodextrin. After several bad episodes, I relented and tried the Similac Sensitive. It seemed to work for a few days, but then spitting up became an issue as well. We tried every trick under the sun to help ease the constipation, but NOTHING worked except stimulation, and I didn't want to rely on that alone. He started getting eczema and cradle cap, which made me think he might have an allergy.

The ped ruled out reflux, and I began trying other formulas as well. I scoured the web for reviews, articles, anything that could give me a clue as to A, why my kid wasn't pooping, and B, what the "best" formula was for constipation and spit up. We tried store brands, we tried Gerber, we tried everything. It seemed that he might have a milk allergy, but since he had no mucus or blood in his poop, the ped ruled that as well. She suggested Nutramigen, and it was by far the worst formula we tried - the spit up got to the point that he couldn't be moved or he'd projectile spit, and the potato smell was downright intolerable. It also made the constipation worse. We made it through two cans of Nutramigen, and I couldn't bear the thought of buying another. I was not comfortable with the ingredients in traditional formulas, and the ped said she was going to put him on something like Elecare or Neocate if it got that bad. So, partially out of desperation and partially because of the article posted above, I decided to try organic.

I had done a lot of research and kept eyeing the Baby's Only brand. I picked it up at Whole Foods and figured it was worth a shot.

Within 2 days, I had a brand new baby.

The spit up stopped INSTANTLY. The eczema and cradle cap, GONE. He actually began pooping on his own, though he still needs the help of prune concentrate twice a day. It was literally a miracle. He has been on it for about 2 months now and his skin is absolutely beautiful, clear and soft. He is just blossoming, both in height and weight. Everyone who knew of the troubles I was having are simply astounded at how well he responded to the Baby's Only Organic.

And the best part? I can READ the ingredients and it is cheaper than Enfamil or Similac. And I feel good about giving it to him.

So that's my story. Hope it helps a fellow mom on the endless formula quest.

Re: organic formulas - Babys Only question

I am interested in the Baby's Only brand, but it appears to not have an infant formula, only toddler formulas for age 1 year and up. I want a good formula from day 1 as I'm more than likely not breast feeding. I agree though that the ingredients in Baby's Only are the best of all of them.
