bathing spinoff...
WHEN do they begin taking showers?
My almost 4 year old refuses. I don't mind bathing him, just wondering if this is something he should start doing (with some help).
Washing himself, washing and rinsing his hair etc. He is too occupied playing in the tub!

DS is not quite 3 but I started him on the shower habit a few months ago because it's faster. He's not able to do it himself but he tries. He washes and rinses. We use the hand held shower head.
He still gets a bath 1x a week but showers are more often. He hated them initially but he's gotten used to them.

Re: bathing spinoff...
Both of my DS will take showers, but my older DS didn't start really washing home self correctly until he was 5-6. My younger DS just turned 4 and he much prefers a bath, but either way I have to wash him up.

Re: bathing spinoff...
DS started at 4.5. He really hates showers before, but we made a game out of it. DS2 is 2 yrs old and will do whatever his brother does so he's been showering for a few months now too. My older DS hated it too and hates getting his eyes wet. I give him a washcloth to hold over his eyes. I'm also able to lower the shower head so it's not high up, which I think helps and have given him the shower head to play with. Took some time, but now he loves it and makes it easier to go away on vacation.

My DD is 2.5 and has been taking showers for a few months. She didnt want to play in the tub anymore so I was filling it for no reason. I still have to wash her but it's so much quicker and she likes it cause it makes her feel like a big girl.

Re: bathing spinoff...
I've been giving my DD showers since she was 3, hasn't had a single bath since then. She's always loved shower since the get go.
At first we had a bench in the shower so she could sit while we showered her but since around 4 (she's 5 1/2 now) she just stands.
I was VERY glad to be done with baths. Showers are SO much faster and easier. In and out, nice and quick.
ETA - We have the removable shower head so I put it in the rail on the shower door so it's lower for her and she uses a washcloth to cover her eyes when we rinse her hair. I still wash her in the shower, she could do it herself but still needs help with washing her hair so I just do everything for her. While I do her hair she'll usually wash herself again with the sponge.

DS1 started being ok with taking showers at 17 months (we were on vacation). He's 4 now and sometimes takes showers and others takes a bath. Regardless he still plays a lot in the water with his bath toys so he enjoys both.

Re: bathing spinoff...
I give my girls showers during the week. They are 20 months and 3.5. I have the hand held shower head so I just stand outside the shower and shower them. It's much quicker than baths. They take baths on the weekends when I have more time.

Re: bathing spinoff...
My DD will be 8 later this month, and still does not like a shower. She really only takes baths. Once in a great while I can convince her to take a shower, but now that her sister is in the bath with her and no longer needs a bath seat, she likes to play in there. And honestly, since I have to give DD#2 a bath, it is just easier to throw the other one in there too. If I had to do a shower with DD#1 at this point, it would take longer.
