It was on entire time, through the dr stitching me up. Never felt any pain
This was me with DD1, never felt a thing, only a little pressure before I started pushing. It was the best labor ever and totally left me unprepared for DD2's super fast ,epidural free (not by choice) labor. ETA: never wore off bc they kept it going, only lowered it a little right before pushing

Re: For those who had an epidural
With my first daughter I got it at 4 cm.. i wasnt really in pain but its when the anesthesiologist was available.. I felt pressure with contractions but no pain..I pushed for 40 minutes.
With my second daughter, I was having strong contractions..probably about 6 cm.. gave me the epi and it didnt work so they took it out and redid it.. giving me an epi like they give to csection deliveries. At that point I was 8 cm. I felt not a thing from my waist down, so much that at the point when my dr came to check, she was crowning.. and I didnt feel a thing. I basically coughed and she was out. I "pushed" for all of 3 minutes.
God bless whoever invented the epidural.
