btdt potty training

I took her cues as I didn't want to rush anything...when I was home she was usually in the bathroom with me, and one day she asked to try the potty. She was about 29 months.

My niece started to ask at 23 months, so all kids are different.

Re: btdt potty training

We wanted it to be self-led so she wouldnt get anxiety about it. We started w potty books and videos and then over the summer at 2.5 we got potty seats so she could make friends w the potty and get used to it.
She asked to go on the potty early this winter a few months before her 3rd bday. She was fully trained in 1 week.

btdt potty training with added questions

18 months is still super young. But we started very early just by having DS watch both me and my DH go the bathroom. He flushed the toilet so he wouldn't be afraid of the potty. We bought him both a seat (that goes on the big toilet) and his own potty.

Since about 22-24 months he has been sitting and sometimes peeing on the little potty. He will also do this at daycare.

He then wouldn't do it for a stretch of time and now he is back to doing it. He tells us when he is peeing in his diaper so I think at this point I am going to start pushing it a bit more but he is only 26.5 months so I know he is still on the earlier side if he does train.

We started at 18 months to introduce potty. Then two weeks later DS was fully potty trained.
Don't let people tell you that your DC is too young. People don't know your child the way you do! Do what's right for you!

PM me your email and I can send you the 3 day potty training book

Get the Elmo DVD it's potty time. We have a potty seat for the regular toilet and little floor potty in each bathroom. And flushable wipes for poops.
We also did a rewards chart w stickers and each time she got 10 stickers she got a prize.

we got her a potty right before she turned 2. she thought of it more as a toy. then as she continued that year in daycare, she became interested in the potty at school because she saw everyone else using it. she would sit on it at school occasionally, but still not at home. then one day at about 33 mos, daycare said don't bring anymore diapers, she is really ready, and we will train her. So we did just that. She trained all day there with the teachers and we reinforced it at home. she always liked going on the real potty, not her fisher price one. I say if your child is in daycare, and they think she's ready, let them start out. it really was such a breeze that way, and she was truly ready at that point.

Re: btdt potty training with added questions

We potty trained our boy at 26 months & the girl at 22 months. DS took 3 days (poop took longer), DD got the hang of it in a day (poop included).

We just bought a potty (plain).

No books, we did a version of the "three day method". 3 days, day 1 naked, day 2 in undies for half the day, day 3 in pants. All home, all with potty in center of room & lots of fluids. Positive reinforcement.

Personally, I think the kid has to be able to communicate with you when they need to go to make it easier... so you need, at a minimum, for them to be able to say "pee pee". We did DD earlier than DS because she was saying "pee pee in toilet". With DS, I was off of work for a few days & figured, if I could train a dog...

Lots of people wait til longer too. 3 is often the age that I hear people say that kids "get" the idea. DS started preschool at 3, though, & needed to be fully TOILET trained (including wiping).

Re: btdt potty training with added questions

All kids are different. DD potty trained fully at 32-months. However, since she was 18-months old (maybe a little older), when she woke up, we would put her on the potty to show her what it was, etc. We did it after naps and before bedtime. Sometimes she went, sometimes she didn't, but she got used to it and it was part of her routine for a while. Then, for one weekend for 3-days we did the potty training and tossed all the diapers and used big girl underwear. First day was the worst with 7 accidents, day 2 she had one accident and day 1 she was accident-free.

The only supplies you need:
- Potty seat (we purchased these: Cushie Tushie seat
External Image

- Step stool. DD picked a Minnie mouse one that lights up when you stand on it for our upstairs bathroom and a Disney cars one for the downstairs bathroom.

- A portable potty seat for the diaper bag for when they need to go in public.
