Please come in if you had an awful transition from rnp to crib
Dd is 6 months next week and we have been trying to transition her from the rnp to crib since she was 5 months. She sleeps awful in her crib. Up constantly at night and doesn't take more than a 30 min nap. This happen to anyone and do you have any advice. I feel bad but I can't resort back to the rnp as she was starting to get too big and kick herself out. I'd also like her in her own room so DH and I can have some time to ourselves. Tia

Maybe try to elevate the mattress a bit at first?

Re: Please come in if you had an awful transition from rnp to crib
It took us a while to transition (from 4.5 to almost 6 months) and was rough. Would start out in the crib for the longest stretch and then sometimes switch to the RnP in the middle of the night if it was getting ridiculous ie waking every hour or so after the initial waking. We kept the swaddle on and started a modified CIO as well at the same time around 5.5 months. Elevating the mattress didn't help us (he just rolled to the bottom). We did night time first then naps when switching (we napped in the swing) as we could not be without any sleep. What really finally worked was him rolling onto his stomach. After that he slept through the night. It sucked for us too but eventually we got there. If she is approaching an age where you feel comfortable doing some CIO that may help you too.

We did CIO and slightly elevated the mattress. First night was a horror. Second night was better. Third night was a charm. After the third night she was back to completely sleeping through the night. Good luck!

Try moving the RnP into her room first. Get her used to sleeping in her own room. Then start putting her in her crib.
We did it much earlier than 6 months and it helped to have DS swaddled so he didn't feel like he was in such a big crib alone, but I think it's too late for you to try that.

This exactly -- we had to wind up doing CIO. After 3 days he sleeps perfectly, and if he wakes can put himself back to sleep. Naps take more work.

Please come in if you had an awful transition from rnp to crib
ok thank ladies. I'm not really at the point of crying it out yet. She sleeps in her own room fine in the rock and play so i know its just the feeling of being confined…but i know she is wanting to stretch out and roll. I have the crib wedge and i think it works but it may be making her roll to the side a bit. Thanks for all of the advice. I think i'm going to try a combo of all of these tx

I posted the same thing the other day lol. I started with naps and tried putting him in his crib over night at 3 mo and he wldnt have it. so bak to naps only. maybe do that? I also tried making the crib more snuggly. I rolled up a towel under the mattress for elevation and rolled up blankets and placed them around him under the sheet.

Re: Please come in if you had an awful transition from rnp to crib
Our transition to the RNP was awful too and we did it much younger. It was so bad that if I ever have another, I don't think I'd use the RNP.
We elevated one end of the mattress, but I'm not sure it helped. Basically, I got no sleep for a very long time. Every single time I'd put DD in the crib, she'd wake up screaming within ten minutes. One night she literally didn't sleep at all. I kept thinking "Okay, this has to be it! She's got to be so exhausted, she's finally going to stay asleep this time." Nope!
Everyone kept telling me to put her back in the RNP or the swing, where she slept really well, but I knew that wasn't the right move so we battled through.
Finally we did a modified version of cry it out, similar to the Ferber method, where I'd go in and comfort her the best I could BUT I would not take her out of the crib. It was REALLY rough for a while, but by six months she was sleeping through the night.
I still shutter at the thought of those nights though so I feel for you!

since he was used to sleeping on an incline, i put a crib wedge in and removed it after he got used to being in his crib.

this is just horrible and i feel bad that i might have done this to her for keeping her in the RnP so long. I too will not be using that thing again! lol I'll find someone to donate it to lol
It's day three of me trying to sleep in her room and night and she simply doesn't care. I have caved two times and put her in the rnp and of course she sleeps like a charm. I'm now on nap one cringing hearing her cry as i"m doing a lighter version of CIO - i just can't even take it. I hired a friggin sleep coach as I could never do this on my own. Seeing her so upset is killing me. I'm just hoping that this does not last longer than a few days...
