DS always wants to help me make dinner. He presses the salad spinner, puts the lettuce in bowls, shakes in the spices...stuff like that. What else can I have him do?

Put sauce on things, mix, help count cups of things and dump them in (make it up! Haha!)

My son is 2.5 years and loves being in the kitchen. He helps me with the dishwasher, he gets things out of the cabinets and fridge, he helps mix. Basically I let him try anything he wants as long as I supervise him.

DD is almost 4 and likes to set the table, help mix things, pour stuff into bowls, etc

DS has been helping real cooking since 3. He's now 3.5. He LOVES to cook. Really loves to cook.

He can wash components for a salad, tear lettuce & broccoli up & put them in. He also can chop celery (plastic knife). I do the tomatoes unless they are cherry.

He can beat an egg & bread chicken cutlet (cover chicken in flour, egg & bread crumbs in that order).

He can mix things that are simmering.

We don't bake goods... not cakes & cookies, so he doesn't get any exposure to that.

My babysitter has made little pizzas with him.

He sets the table, fills & empties dishwasher (my 2 year old helps with these tasks too).

DD is 2.5 and she helps set the table, mixes things, does the salad spinner and helps make dinner when she can (like if we're making pizza). She helps with baking a lot more than cooking.

At 4: Washing produce and peeling onions.
He's started chopping smaller, softer veggies like mushrooms and zucchini.
Any kind of mixing, breading, pouring... anything involving an egg is always exciting.
He likes to put on food gloves and get his hands in meatloaf and meatball mixture.
He will season meat or veggies (some of the shakers need the holes partially taped off for this to not be a disaster)
On days when there isn't much food prep, I tell him to find something pretty to decorate the dinner table with.

forever.. LOL Her pre-k taught them to cut up apples with the slicer at 3. So She's pretty good with cutting things up and being careful. But we did all sorts of stuff, Id pre-measure things she'd pour them in. She'd mix, she'd season, set table, put out cups, dishes, helps us plate, etc. She'll even sweep if we give her nothing to do, hand us napkins ask us questions or use her step stool to watch us check the food and we tell her why its done or not done and what we are looking for.
