Car seat rules??
Can someone tell me what the new rules are? They have to face backwards till 2?? Is that right and how long should they be in a harness seat rather then the actual buckle with a booster?

Car seat rules??
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that kids remain rear facing until at least two years old. Even better would be to maximize the limits of the seat though.
They recommend that kids remained harnessed until they can sit properly for the entirety of a trip, including sleeping (meaning no bending over, reaching, leaning) the seat belt also needs to lay low on them across their hips and not across their belly. The shoulder strap shouldn't be too high as well. Typically its about 6 years old.

Rear face until at least 2. And harness for as long as you can. It is so much safer to have them harnessed then in a regular seat belt/booster...

Funny you posted this. One the moms in my mommy and me class told me this morning her 11 month old is forward facing. I said he had to be rear until 2 and she said no, he's over 20 lbs?! I'm confused....

Car seat rules??
The law is the you child must be rearfacing until 1 And 20 lbs. that is a bare minimum.
The aap reccomend rearfacing until 2. The nhtsa reccomend rearfacing until 4 or the child outgrows the seat rearfacing,
Children are 500% safer rearfacing. Less likely to be killed or seriously injured in a car crash.
The person who said they are turning their 11 month old forward is both breaking the law and putting their child in danger.

I'm fairly certain 1 and 20 is the law, but yes the rest are reccomend actions. I'm not 100% positive on NY law, because I live out of state.

In NY it is not law. It just says an appropriate seat. If it was 1 and 20 my ds would never switch cause he is over 2 and just recently went over the 20 lb mark.

It's law in PA. My ds is also a peanut, but in think he was 18 months when he cracked 20 lbs.
