Why is it such a surprise...

That we need to take a shower at night and get in our pj's, or have dinner, get dressed for the day.
There are pretty much things that are routine for EVERYONE. Waking, getting dressed, having breakfast, etc. Why do these boys act like me telling them we have to get dressed in the morning is a big deal. It's like I told them I am throwing away all their toys. Everything takes soooo much loooonger to do. If they just get that if we get dressed fast the faster they can go and play. Better yet... if we are leaving for something for them like a bday party or playdate it's still a big to do. DS actually tells me, "It's not time to go." I tell him it is time to go and ask if he wants to go to the bday party he has to get dressed and then jacket, etc. He wants to go, but not at that moment. Grrrrrr!

Why is it such a surprise...

My nieces are like this every morning and evening is a fight for my sister. I feel bad for her. It's a fight to get them up, to get them dressed and the little one who just turned 5 sounds like your DS. She always says she's not ready to leave or she needs to relax for a bit. You know cause her life is so hard and demanding.

Re: Why is it such a surprise...

DD goes through phases where its impossible to get her out of the house I am confused by it too at times since its the same thing we do every other day. DD is going to be 3 in May and I just chalk it up to her being 3.

If you google reward charts, they actually specific charts for things like getting ready in the morning, brushing teeth, etc. You can choose whatever reward for them to work towards.

I used one with ds when he had trouble getting up & ready for kindergarten. I really only needed it for about 2 weeks & then it just became routine with no issues.

Re: Why is it such a surprise...

Thanks all. THe boys are pretty good, but I just find it funny that they are surprised when I tell them we have to get dressed or leave. I do rewards with the kids or we make games out of getting ready... we set a time and see if we can beat the clock.

My 4 yr old gets coins in his piggy back at night for having good days, etc. He loves counting them and we say with enough he can get a little something. Nothing crazy, but it helps. He loves stickers and coloring so makes it easy and we really don't take money out of his piggy bank.

It may also be a Boy thing. When I work at night, I always remind DH to make sure DS bathes. Sometimes I get again or surprised look. Im like yea, everyday he takes a bath & prayers at bedtime.Chat Icon

Re: Why is it such a surprise...

We deal with this every day in my house, too. DS is 3.5 and he never wants to get dressed in the morning. It is a struggle every single day. When I finally get him to help me, then he fights me on what pants and shirt to wear. If all his green shirts are in the wash, he gets upset. Chat Icon I long for the weekends when he can stay in his pj's all morning!!
