Fluoride question

So dd's dr prescribed fluoride for her at her 6 month appointment. She has been taking them for 2 months.

I'm confused though bc the infant toothpastes all saw fluoride free and safe to swallow. So should I not be giving her the fluoride

My ped doesn't give fluoride until 1 year... So you may want to double check with them. I grew up in NYC where there is fluoride in the tap water and never ever had a cavity. There is no fluoride in LI water, so I give DD fluoride vitamins.

The amount of flouride in the vitamin is exact. Children who might swallow toothpaste shouldn't use flouride toothpaste, bc they could swallow more than is recommended.

Some people are anti flouride altogether. It depends on who you ask, but I trust my ped on this issue.

My ped def does 6 months, but he is more old school. I just don't want to do anything wrong even if it's what my ped says.

Fluoride is controversial, so you're going to get varying responses in regards to whether or not to give it. Personally, after doing my own research, I decided to give DD the vitamins, beginning at 6 months. I believe that while high levels of fluoride may be toxic, some is beneficial. The reason fluoride vitamins are Rx only is so that you are giving a controlled dose. There's no fluoride in baby toothpaste bc they're bound to swallow it.
